Well this is it! Almost the last week of Christmas music!

Well Come Next Sunday Night/Monday Morning at Midnight, I know most AC, easy listening & adult standards stations will return to their regularly scheduled playlists until next Fall. I know Christmas music might get bothered after a while, but it's almost ending in just eight more days. Are you going to be relieved when this is over? Let me know what you think!

I used to really hate Christmas music on AC's. I usually just stay tuned into our local AC station and just wait till it returns back to it's regular programming on the 26th after Christmas. Eventually I started to tune into our local Hot AC station every Fall when our local AC flipped to Christmas, and sometimes I tune into our local Adult Hits as well. This year, I actually starting to enjoy Christmas music on AC, and I stayed tuned into the AC station that I stream from another city throughout Christmas. Some of the Christmas songs are crappy and annoying, but there are good ones that me and others really enjoyed like Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Christmas Canon" and "Christmas Eve", Dan Fogelberg's "Same Old Lang Syne", Vanessa Williams' "Do You Hear What I Hear", Gloria Estefan's "Christmas Through Your Eyes", Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band's "The Little Drummer Boy", Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas", and a few other ones as well. Although, I have been hearing these stuffs over and over again many times already, so I'm kind of tired of it and waiting for the AC format to fall back into it's regular programming after Christmas.

This season, I have mostly ignored the Christmas music on the radio, but I liked the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Christmas Canon" much better than the tired stuff like "Santa Baby" or whatever it is called.

Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas", and a few other ones as well. Although, I have been hearing these stuffs over and over again many times already, so I'm kind of tired of it and waiting for the AC format to fall back into it's regular programming after Christmas.

John Lennon and Band Aid's Christmas songs....very overplayed. Whatever happened to the great Rat Pack classics?? Only on Muzak these days anymore...jeez!

I don't really listen to the AC format a ton (I listen to Hot AC, Adult Hits, Classic Hits mostly), but it seems like all Christmas has been going on FOREVER this year. The AC station here didn't flip any sooner, either.

I started listening to AC when I was 11 in '03. I eventually start listening to Hot AC when I was around 13 or 14 somewhere in '05-'06 and I listen to Hot AC sometimes usually when AC flips to Christmas, but I also listen to Hot AC during the year when I'm bored of the AC format. Most of the time I listen to AC. When I was around 16-18 in '08-'10 I was a lot more into Hot AC and I was also a lot into AC as well. When I was in my late 17 in '09 I was totally into Hot AC and totally ditched AC, but eventually when I was around 18 in '10 I kinda got bored of Hot AC and I was back to AC and totally into AC once again and I haven't listen to Hot AC much or at all since then.

Am I getting old? Well I started listening to AC as a preteen then I started listening to Hot AC as a teen and as I turn into a mature teen I gotten more into Hot AC although I was still into AC a lot at that time and as I turn into an adult I feel like I'm back into AC once again like when I was a preteen. Hmm...

You're asking if you're old at 19? I'd say that age is relative. My mother is 98 and is now old but four years ago, she wasn't yet! We used to talk about how my sister thought that SHE was old. In 1964, a song from 1963 was an oldie! What is it that you like about Hot AC(when you like it)that you don't like about CHR/Pop? About the only difference I can tell lately is song rotation, CHR being earlier on Rhythmic product and Hot AC, more likely to play an older title that seems more at home on Mainstream AC.

However, some ACs may want to go until New Years or beyond that. Who wants to hear "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" on December 29th!

I used to enjoy the AC format a lot, but it seems that in the past few years, the format is starting to wear "new" songs out more and more - examples being "Need You Now", "Hey, Soul Sister", "Rolling In The Deep", "I'm Yours", etc. - if they played more new songs, it'd be different, but the same ones are just played to death. That's why I've found myself listening to it less and less, unfortunately.

I wasn't asking if I'm getting old by my age, I was asking if I'm getting old based on the age of the materials I'm listening to. Btw, I'm the only child in my family, no brothers, no sisters, so I don't really have anybody to compare to say that I'm old or young. Some of my friends said I'm too old because I listen to REO Speedwagon, Chicago, Elton John, Rod Stewart. I also listen to Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Black Eyed Peas, The Fray, Nickelback, Daughtry, and such as well.

Btw, I discovered CHR about the same time I discovered Hot AC. CHR is almost like Hot AC although they throw in Rap which is what I don't like about CHR. Hot AC is almost like CHR based on how well they embrace new song and yes of course I listen to Hot AC for the new songs before they crossover to AC. I also listen to Hot AC because they play some other stuffs besides pop including some alternative rock, 80s and 90s. I don't think they play 80s much or at all now and I don't think they play 90s that much either.

I agree, I think a good AC station should jumps on new songs more quickly as soon as Hot AC and CHR jumps on them rather then repeating the same new song when it's getting old and wearing people down like Train's "Hey, Soul Sister", Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are", Pink's "Perfect", Katy Perry's "Firework", Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi", Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" and more.

We have a CHR/Rhythmic, a CHR/Pop and two Hot ACs. All of them play Hip-hop but to varying degrees and it's mostly a case of how many spins in each format, as opposed to different songs.

I agree about Hot AC...I listen for the same reasons over CHR [not only the little/no rap, but also the occasional "oh wow" songs from the 90s and early 2000s].

Also agree---80s seems to be few and far between on alot of Hot AC's now. It's more common on just the regular AC's---which is a bummer. I can't imagine Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, and Aerosmith very much on AC, whereas it would still fit in on a Hot AC, but they just aren't typically played now. Kudos to the Hot AC's that still throw in some extra treats like that.

What market are you in? Do you listen to your local stations or do you listen to something else online? What AC station and what Hot AC station is your favorite?

I live in the Dallas-Ft. Worth market and I used to listen our local AC KVIL a lot and our local HAC KDMX a lot back then, but I haven't listen to HAC over the past few years. Now I stream the AC KMGL from my hometown Oklahoma City ever since they brought back their online streaming in Summer 2011 since they took off their online streaming back in early 2009 except I didn't really listen to KMGL that much through their streaming back then. I started to realize KMGL sounds much better than KVIL back in early 2010. I also listen to the HAC KYIS from my hometown Oklahoma City a little to see what it sounds like to compare it with our local HAC KDMX.

I think those would fit the Classic Hits, Adult Hits, or Classic Rock formats if Hot AC doesn't embrace them anymore. It looks AC will embrace Nirvana and Sublime the next coming years and AC listeners wouldn't be too surprised.
