we're on our way to a new record in Columbus radio

WVKO has been on the air since Saturday, this is a record. They can't seem to stay on the air more than 3 days, what a waste. I'm not sure whey they didn't just join 103.1.

It would be nice to see somebody do something with that signal. I think if it would be started soon someone could really give 98.9 a run for their money with "WVKO is back" and really program it like good local radio during drive time and joining The Touch whenever.

I am amazed at the small playlists of all the Radio One stations, and how people keep listening to them.

Speaking of WVKO, they were apparently having a transmitter problem yesterday as they were spraying broadband noise all over the upper part of the band. I could only hear the local stations and everything else was covered by white noise. They were off the air yesterday evening and today they are back on and the noise is gone.

IMHO the time for this has passed Chuck. Money talks these days and the people "leasing" WVKO AM/FM are paying a pretty penny to have it. As I stated in previous posts even before the new AM transmitter site was built anyone could have approached the new owners and entered into an LMA with them to operate WVKO AM. But no one did. This made it an easy pickings for the group who did get it.

Programming a station locally only during drive time does not much sense either. In order to truly win over the public with local flavor you would have to do it all day. And maybe go to a sat format overnight for music. You would also have to provide local sports both professional and high school. This would probably include The Clippers which I am not so sure would want to go another round with WVKO due to the way the prior owner handled their business. But who knows maybe some day this could really happen.
