West Coast Top 100 Markets that have more than 1/2 Hour on the weekend Evening News.

I know in the East Coast in the Eastern Time, it's impossible to get 1 hour newscast on the weekend evenings due to sports overrun and Sports program tends to end on 6pm/5 central on weekends, plus you got prime time starts on 7pm/6 central on Sundays. Here are some of the Top 100 markets from Hawaii to Mountain Time Zone that have more than 1/2 of evening news on the weekends.

Wouldn't the list be shorter of the cities with zilch? Heck, even lowly market 149 Chico has some type of evening news (though we have gladly escaped the weekend morning blatherfests).

CHICO-REDDING

KNVN/KHSL/ActionNews NBC-CBS duopoly Saturday 600-630PM
KNVN/KHSL/ActionNews NBC-CBS duopoly Sunday 500-530PM and 600-630PM

KRCR ABC Saturday 430-500PM
KRCR ABC Sunday 530-600PM and 630-700PM

East Coast Primetime Sports tend to pre-empt the news during football season, though KRCR moves their news to 430PM to get out of the way of the 5PM ABC College Football Saturday.

Here in the central time zone, we are not that much different from the eastern time zone on the weekends, in that regard. We have so many sports overruns that we almost never have any early evening newscasts on the weekends in the fall and winter months, or only an abbreviated newscast, if there is one at all. And sports programming usually runs to at least 6:00 p.m. CENTRAL time (not eastern) on the weekends. Inside Edition Weekend is usually the sacrificial lamb that gets cut for abbreviated weekend newscasts when sports run long. I also don't usually see much network news on fall and winter weekends.

It would be even shorter than that when you consider that Honolulu is at least TWO HOURS behind L.A. Anchorage would've been a better choice although its an hour behind

Cheers & 73 :)
