WFAF 106.3 to Switch to a Simulcast of Kicks 105.5

Country music is coming to Westchester and Rockland Counties.
WFAF 106.3, which has been simulcasting A/C station WFAS 103.9, will switch to a rebroadcast of sister Cumulus station WDBY, 105.5. The change is scheduled to take place on March 1.
Kicks 105.5, out of Patterson NY, plays many country songs from the past 20 years or so, in addition to the current hits.
I found out this news from an email sent out by WFAS.
 
Playing some of the older music along with the new stuff is what makes KICKS 105.5 a great station. I listen online sometimes. (I saw the news on KICKS 105.5's Facebook this morning). The mix of the old and the new is why I used to like listening to Clear Channel's KIX 97.9 out of Springfield, Mass. Then they moved to 100.9 in late January and I could no longer receive a decent signal from them in the car. I'm stuck with CC's WWYZ 92.5 and they're not very good and they have a horrible morning show.
 
105.5 and 106.3 back together again? Maybe they can call it The Superstation!!! It will be interesting to see how they change the imaging (if at all).

Actually not a bad move, although 106.3 does not do all that well to the south and west (certainly not as good as the coverage maps would let you believe).

A country station is bound to be a better performer for Cumulus than a 3rd or 4th preset Hot AC in an area saturated with that format (Lite, HUD, Star 99.9, Fresh, etc...)
 
"Kicks 106" anyone? Although contrary to standard rounding, radio rounding seems to always use the lower number for .5's (can't think of any 95.5s that rounded to 96, for example)
 
That's an interesting move. I'll have to check that out when I go on my visit this Thursday to hear 106.3 as a country station. It's like "Y-107" all over again. Remember the country station "Y-107" when it was WYNY where they usually did the quadcast on 107.1 back in 1997 until 2001? And now 12 years later, it's back on the air. I hope New York City would get enough listeners from the old days of WHN and WYNY to check out this country station for some audience.

Back in 2005 when 106.3 began simulcasting a rock station, WPDH in Poughkeepsie, it didn't last too long, so it went back to a WFAS simulcast, but now 5 years later, it's going change in a few days. Stay tuned!

Frankly, I do not think that WFAF puts a strong enough signal into NYC to realistically attract any significant audience there. Y 107 had a stick in Valhalla NY which was somewhat closer to New York. Even then, its signal there was quite variable.
WFAF has always been used in recent years to simulcast another station. There was a lot of overlap with WFAS' signal, so that pairing never made sense to me. Simulcasting with WDBY does a better job of complimenting the primary signal.
Perhaps the main goal is to allow people from the Putnam County and Danbury CT areas that are commuting toward NYC to listen to Kicks for their entire drive, instead of losing the signal north of White Plains. They may also attract a decent amount of listeners in northern Westchester and Rockland Counties, where their signal is reasonably strong.
 
Furthering Barry's observations about the 106.3 signal, it more or less starts falling apart once you get south of 287 (Cross Westchester Expressway)...just to give you a general idea as to the coverage area towards the city.
 
106.3 also gets hammered in New York by the plethora of "undocumented radio stations" using that frequency too.
