WFMY-TV GM named president of Greensboro Chamber

The News & Record, an alleged daily newspaper in Greensboro is reporting that Deborah Hooper, the current president and general manager of WFMY News 2, will be the new president of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce. According to the N & R story she was with the station for 25 years.

Its interesting that at the time of this posting, the WFMY-TV website has no mention of the story. If the story is on the website, its well hidden. I can't believe that a former major triad news source was scooped by the so called daily newspaper in Greensboro. I'm not sure if the story was mentioned on the 6 PM local news. Also interested observers wonder if they only gave her 5 minutes to clean out her desk and leave the property when she told the bigwigs at Gannett she was leaving. When the GM leaves a major broadcast station shouldn't it be significant enough to mention on the station's website?

I wonder if Goodtimesandgreatoldies will apply for the position.

The staff just found out today around lunchtime. The Triad Business Journal sent out an email about it around 3pm today.

I have been critical of Debbie Hooper in the past. I wonder if her departure has anything to do with the observations people have been making about the declining quality of their news operation?

You've made a very good point, and I'm sure she will do a bang up job with the Greensboro Chamber. I haven't checked out the news 2 website, but if the previous comments are correct and there's no mention of her being named President of the Greensboro Chamber on the station's website, its a very interesting omission. Wouldn't the TV station be letting the community know their GM had been honored? Maybe someone from the TV community could give their uninformed radio cousins the lowdown on the situation.

Has the new GM for WFMY-TV 2 been announced? I think that it is widely thought that the News on 2 has been declining for several years.... They need an upgrade......
