WFNX adds syndie advice show, Loveline (via BRW)

WFNX is running Loveline, a syndicated love advice show, 10-midnight. Boston Radio Watch says they ran
it before, and it also has aired on WBCN and WAAF. I may add that some of the "free" and "guy talk"
stations around the country are airing it and it was one of the possible shows WBCN _could_ add if it
goes "guy talk". (And even though WFNX has a contract to air it now, well, contracts can be broken
can't they?)

Funny since it already failed on fnx once, and BCN, and AAF. They're getting it for free I would bet so what's to lose?.

Unrelated to LoveLine, I had a chance to speak with Dr. Drew once...he's a nice enough guy. He's certainly under no illusions about the therapeutic value of the show (and strives to make sure everyone listening is under no illusions either). I think the problem is that when LoveLine started, it was pretty groundbreaking and there wasn't quite as easy access to the same information over the web. These days, the kids that LoveLine is trying to reach aren't really listening to the radio very much.

Of course, it just hasn't been the same since Adam Corolla left. :D

I too met Drew years ago and found him to be very nice, genuinely down to earth and a smart guy. Lovline is an easy, EASY, HUGE payday for him, god love him for it.

Not airing it for free, this time it's an iron clad contract that even WBCN can't break

In that case one wonders, why?. It is a dead show outside of LA, it has failed everywhere it has run in Boston, it does not exactly jive with fnx's unspoken "were more indie and alternative than BCN" image, plus it's a call in show that listeners cannot really call into (well they can but it's a day delayed). I see no real upside for fnx in this one.

Well with the wonders of streaming...it would only be like a 2 minute delay...I like how loveline goes away and comes back every few years, it can get stale but with the rotation, it's one of those shows where you go "oh yeaaaah....i remember this"...I also think stryker is one of those dj's at the top of his game, the west coast Adam 12, well that's just my opinion

Stryker is no Corolla who although I am not a fan I think he made the show work for a few years,, Stryker is just that: a "DJ" which means he's ok with music but not so great when the job requires a personality and the ability to do talk segments. It's a great gig for Stryker but he's not helping the show at all, if anything it's gotten a lot worse than it ever was.

When it ran on FNX, BCN picked it up as well and ran it at the same time. FNX later sued BCN for it.

No they did not sue they threatened in the Phoenix to sue but did not do it. If they had sued do you think it would have stayed at BCn and then eventually ended up on waaf?. Mindich made a lot of noise about it but nothing came of it.

This Station print all kinds of sex adds and now this station is talking about sex...Its now time for this station to flip, from Rock format to "Gettin some "format( Sex 101.7 Heaven) .

A radio station printing "adds"? That's a neat trick. You're referring to the Phoenix newspaper, which is in business of selling ad space. Escort services' money is just as green as anyone elses...and they wouldn't buy the space if it didn't generate a return.
