PA (August 21, 2006) - Alexander Langer, President of Langer Broadcasting Group announced today the launch of a brand-new Philadelphia radio Station - AM 1180 WFYL. Langer Broadcasting Group is one of the last of the independent radio broadcasters operating in the top 10 markets.
“I am very excited about WFYL,” said Langer. “It’s the culmination of 9 years of hard work to navigate the myriad regulatory and zoning issues that goes along with building a new signal. In the end, it makes it that much sweeter.”
The station will initially carry talk and specialty programming from Langer's National Radio Network. Langer plans to carry local programming for greater Philadelphia beginning in September. Brokered programming in a market with few such opportunities will also be made available to independent broadcasters on WFYL.
WFYL is located on Jeffersonville Golf Club in West Norriton Township. The studios and transmitter facilities are all located in a historic stone house in the middle of the club, just North of Philadelphia.
“Without the assistance and vision of West Norriton Township, this station would never have been possible,” said Langer. “We look forward to broadcasting from this historic township, the gateway to Valley Forge.”
The station's opening will be commemorated tomorrow at 9 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the station’s Jeffersonville Golf Club studio at 2400 West Main Street, Jeffersonville, PA. Langer will be joined by the Board of Commissioners of West Norriton Township including present and incoming commissioners.
Langer also owns other stations in Pittsburgh and Boston. Langer’s National Radio Network is a talk network originated in Boston and heard on over 200 radio stations nationwide.
