WGN America begins the transition to 24/7 News.

Like eSports? The demographic (mostly) watches Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and YouTube. Not traditional cable and DIRECTV/Dish Network. Disney XD and TBS have occasional eSports programming, wonder how they do in the ratings...

So what happens to the channel? Maybe they could turn it into a video game streaming channel and get top streamers like ninja and shroud to sign deals for exclusive shows it could be the first network of its kind. Although most young people don't watch cable tv as much anymore but maybe wgn could launch a wgn plus streaming channel in connection with it to gain interest.
You mean Nexstar airing their content over on Twitch??

I wonder would they have been better going the Discovery/A&E/National Geographic route of airing more cheaply produced 'reality' series/documentary series? WGN America had an original series featuring Dog the Bounty Hunter a year or two ago. If news doesn't work like it is now ratings wise do you think they will close it entirely or go a different route with it?

I can see NewsNation being shut down and Nexstar reallocating the dollars to Streaming News outlets with their local brandings in the big markets such as KRON-ON in San Francisco, KTLA+ in Los Angeles, WPIX and WGN at some point putting their local editions.

with cable TV on the decline, i can see WGN America/News Nation shut down as a linear cable channel and switch to streaming full time.

Yes national geographic channel was airing the episodes of lockup and lockup raw on fridays. After msnbc dropped it but after the death of george floyd they seemed to dissapear from the national geographic channel as well sadly. When they play re runs of shows do they just pay for the rights to air them for a certain period of time or can they buy the rights to air the show outright indefinitely?

Moving Antenna TV to cable seals the deal for more reality and recent rerun garbage within a few years. Instead, expand it to more markets OTA!

I think the general consensus here is news on WGN America will likely be gone before years end. On the other hand, if they are hell bent on making it work then all bets are off. But as someone said on some post somewhere newscasts are expensive if done well.

Generally, there are number of runs over a specific period conditions in the deal. Syndicators want options for future media that we don't even have now. And they want tomorrow's payments in tomorrow's dollars.

But a cable channel could try to permanently negotiate if they wanted to try.

Not much has changed in their ratings. They are getting an average of 121K viewers a week. That's the population of Yakima, Selah, and Ellensburg combined. MAJOR FAIL! Even Tom Skilling and the WGN News at Nine would get 100K more viewers.

Meanwhile, the same site shows Fox News still on top with 1.21 million average viewers and 2.26 million primetime viewers. CNN has gained in primetime but MSNBC has not. Anderson Cooper is up 44% and Lawrence O'Donnell is down 12%...

Could it be possible that News Nation gets canceled before it goes to 24/7? It seems like even going back to WGN America would be better.

I can see news nation channel itself cancelled by cable but they could be repurposed as a national desk providing national news segments for Nexstar owned stations such as KTLA, KRON, WGN, WPIX for their local streaming operations such as KRON-ON and KTLA+.
