WGPR...THE LAST OF A DYING BREED ....A piece of Detroit's History Gone

First let me say thank you to the Masons for running a true "Original Legand of Detroit Radio, for the past 40 plus years.

I wish they would have held on to this true masterpiece of Good Radio that was left for Detroit. The playlist was ecletic and diverse...something that WDMK will never amount too.

Old School Saturdays on WGPR 107.5 was amazing,

songs like:
Benard Love: Who DO you Love
Brothers Johnson: Get the Funk out of my face
The Jacksons: Body

Why did the Masons decide to throw in the Towel....and why couldn't they sell it to someone Idependent of Corporate Boring Mainstream Radio. ???

WGPR was way more open with the Playlist than WDMK or WMXD. We've truly seen the last of Good Over the Air waves Radio.
Detroit just lost a piece of History.....Radio One has already Killed the WGPR website :( :( :(

All Radio One is going to do is play the same ol Rotation that is played on every one of their other Properties.

It's only a LMA Radio One doesnt own 107.5 yet. Maybe they will buy it in a few years but they are not in any position to buy stations

So Then why would the Mason's LMA 107.5 ??? was it ratings.....WGPR was the last Local Major Station left which they spoke of ON & OFF the Air....Being Local & Loyal. LMA to Radio-one just so they can Replace Good Music with crap we already here enough of from WHTD :-[

Growing up in Flint and Southfield, my dad always listened to WJZZ and WGPR, It's just hard to come home now with no WJZZ or WGPR, your talking over 30 years of Signature Radio, you had DJ.s like

Electryfying Mojo..for years, You have nothing left anymore as far as qaulity. Radio-one to me is no different than Clear Channel.

I see Radio One is playing the shuffle game in another market. At least in this case the heritage station, WJLB, is in the hands of someone but them and currently entact. This company's instability with their stations is the one of the main reasons why they have so many problems.

Johnnie_Radio, I agree this is a true loss to Detroit because WGPR was live and local and Radio One doesn't seems to believe in that with any of their stations (including their flagships) these days.

Kilamanjero.....Which is why i don't understand why the Mason's...would just Give this last Heritage Station to Radio-One. WGPR was always using the "LOCAL & LOYAL" on the Air-waves then they just turn the station to Radio-One of all companies...they are no better than Clear Channel, WGPR has been around longer than Radio-One has been a company! No more WJZZ/WHYT/WDRQ/WGPR. Detroit Radio is officially Dead! ???

If the Independents didn't sell their stations...you woudn't have Radio-One or Clear Channel to cut the Heart out of so many Stations and run them Cheap. So now all you have is Joyner & Baisden who both are political and think they have all the answers about the world.

Basically, they are one lame radio station company, CBS with its handful of urban stations could have used WGPR considering they already own the Freemasons former TV property, WWJ-TV. It would have been a better fit than letting Radio NoOne ruin another heritage urban property.
