WGST has number #1 talker (Limbaugh) and #3 talker (Beck), why do ratings suck?

WGST has the number #1 talker (Rush Limbaugh) and the #3 talker (Glenn Beck), why do 640 GST's ratings suck? Is WSB being the home of both Boortz and Clark Howard that much of an advantage?

This really is a good question. You can't blame all the woes on a weak signal. Even if they don't beat Neil, Clark, and Hannity, they should still do better than they're doing.

Well, Glenn just came back. AMD has been in a state of flux over the past 12-18 months. Dave Ramsey is good but hard to take for four hours, and in PMD. After that, it's unlistenable.

WSB wins because they have developed good local shows and stick with them. Yes, I know Boortz and Clark are syndicated, but Atlanta knows they are here, Boortz starts off local, the morning drive is local, so the audience feels enough of a connection to perceive the station as a whole as local and relevant. Look at the weekends too...where there is great local programming.

GST has mediocre local weekday shows and horrible weekend crap. How you gonna win with that?

I can't listen to them for more than about 10 minutes because of their poor audio quality. Like listening to the radio through a telephone. Clear Channel ordered all their AM stations to cut back their audio bandwidth, making them all sound like crap. Brilliant plan. ???

Al_ATL had it right.. S I G N A L. Its odd to think that when the rage was that WPBD was coming on the air, the station that preceded WGST at this freq, that they actually sounded good, and had a better , or easier to listen to signal and audio quality. WGST sounds like a horrible distorted mess. They will never be able to compete until Audio is well balanced, adjusted and processed. They also need to milk every bit of Signal out of thier daytime 50,000 that they can. WQXI was wanting to move to this freq, but Im glad they didnt. At least they still have a better signal than this one. I agree they have great hosts, but you must be able to hear them to listen.

Great host's! hmmmm. That's questionable! If the signal sucks so bad and you just have to listen, then do it online.

Point well taken that Beck only been back on GST after a several year absence.

At least Boortz and Clark didn't get their start on 640 before going to WSB, that would be really embarrassing for WGST.

Oh wait .... lol

When in doubt, blame an ex-"journalist"

Or that Hannity didn't use WGST to get a job at Fox News, then WABC, then national, where his old station wasn't good enough OR smart enough to air his show, which now clobbers them in his old daypart.

Ever seen one of those restaurants that's changed names 10 times, but still can't attract customers? New name, same ol' food.

No having Sean Hannity on WGST would make too much sense, especially with WGST's top of the hour tie in with Fox News Radio.

A question .... who was Sean Hannity's syndicator when he went national a few years ago (ABC?) and was Hannity ever in play for WGST to pick him up?

ABC is and always was Hannity's syndicator. The FNR reports on WGST are syndicated by CC's Premiere, so they have no tie-in with Hannity other than he happens to be on Fox TV.

WGST very well may have been able to pick him up. I know of several stations personally who met with ABC at various conventions before Hannity's launch only to say "pass". Smart move.

The audio issue is a non issue to 99% of the WGST audience.
WGST is 3 db louder than WSB. In AM radio, loudness contributes to better coverage. WGST programming's goal is to maximize coverage and since 99% of the audience could care less about audio quality....why not?
I agree when it comes to the 5 Khz audio cut off.....although 99% of the radios in use can't pass anything above 3 Khz. AM digital is a dead issue.....no sense in getting "ready" for that. I do like the fact that you can hear WSM at 650 Khz now.... WGST does not splatter all over 650 now.
On my radios, WGST sounds very good. I listen to Ramsey and hear VERY bad mic technique....but the rest sounds good. Can't really understand Al_Atl's complaint!

I dunno Taylor... Maybe a difference in our ears or a difference in the radios we listen to. But to me, on virtually every radio I've listened to, WGST sounds like excrement. Hence why I listen to Rush on WDUN-550 in Gainesville. Yeah, I get a little noise and static, but the audio is soooo much better. Night and day. I do not hear any difference in loudness between WGST and any of the other bigger signals in town.
