What AM/FM/TV do you hear midday beyond 60 miles at your location?

Lots of FMs come in from over 60 miles 24/7. 106.9 Hilton Head and 98.7 Beaufort/Savannah are in almost all the time in most of the Charleston area. You have to go well inland, almost to Lake Marion on I-95 before they go out.

93.1 Savannah, even with 93.3 in Charleston, is in most of the time. It comes in so well that after our local 92.5 switched from urban to country, some people around here went to 93.1 to listen to Rickey Smiley's morning show.

WCOS Columbia is in most of the time, especially the farther inland you get. Wave 104 from Myrtle Beach is probably the most frequent FM from the north. During the summer, it is a completely different story. The dial is almost completely opened up.

From around Gurnee, IL, my most frequent midday 60+ mile catch has to be WZOK 97.5 from Rockford, IL. We (very) often can get superpowered WBCT (B 93.7) from Grand Rapids, MI - which is a good 130 miles distant - but it needs at least a little lift to make the trip. Thanks to Lake Michigan, this seems to be the case more than half the time. On a cold, stable winter day, it tends to be absent. But WZOK is always there rain or shine which is why I nominate it. Can't really think of any other signal of more than 60 miles that is this dependable without tropo. On the other hand, I get tons of FMs in the 40-60 mile range all of the time.

By the way, getting AMs at more than 60 miles is not much of a challenge and I get plenty of those at any time. Farthest seem to be WLW and WJR, each of which are very very weak in my area. But I also can pull in stations from Cedar Rapids, IA, Madison, WI, Champaign, IL, etc.

Jd - Yes, I understand. WPTF has been 50 kW DA-N since the 1940s. Like many, they have lost some coverage in the fringe. Nowadays, many FM stations cover the rural areas that depended on the 50 kW signal in the 20th Century. -Bill

WPTF used to come in well into the Chicago area at night, but when WSCR has it's IBOC on it's very hard to hear WPTF.

Agreed. Though I've heard 680 News Toronto and the little powerhouse WCTT Corbin, KY in the past year. KFEQ St. Joseph, MO is a frequent visitor here in Northern IL. Sunday night IBOC was off on WSCR and WFAN was coming in nicely. It also was off as of 12:30 CT today. Would like to hear KNBR someday again...

680 is tough duty in the Chicago area. That's a little surprising considering how many "big boys" reside there, but most of them are either far away and/or aim their signals elsewhere. I don't think I've ever
caught KFEQ here...at least not on their night pattern. I have snagged WPTF a couple of times, CJOB a few times more than that, and CFTR from time to time. But the "baby blowtorch" WCTT has been the most common visitor IME.

Have any of you other Chicago area guys ever logged WRKO? I'd think it might be possible around dawn, but I've never done it.

I also heard WFAN Sunday night--quite a surprise. Used to be easy.
Regarding 680, In the past I have heard KFEQ & CFTR. Have never heard WRKO. Used to get KNBR years ago, especially on Sunday nights/Monday morning, when then WMAQ signed off. However, that hasn't happened in over 20 years.
