WHAT AM wants translator on 92.1 ......will crunch WVLT Vineland signal

Can't they just use FM HD radio sub channels? 97.1 was an existing allocation. 105.7 messes with the hawk. 95.3 was empty. Why not 94.9? #Stop921

In both Havertown , Pa . , as well as in Margate City , N.J. , I have set up Marantz and Technics receivers with the 300 ohm dipole antennae ... I am definitely in the "fringe" reception areas ... with the stereo function disabled , receiving in Monaural , I get it in good enough , on most days , and in my vehicles , there is digital tv transmission interference { after 2009 } in certain low-lying areas in Havertown , but otherwise , it's listenable . As a dedicated WVLT 92.1 listener , whether it's a translator for WHYY , like WVLT said , or for WHAT , if this translator comes into fruition , parts of the southern Delaware County area , as well as parts of the Central , Southern , Western parts of Philadelphia will get cut off .

When I lived in Delaware County PA I listened to WVLT everyday. They played a much better selection and variety of oldies than WOGL FM plus WVLT had fewer commercials. There was no comparison of quality in the two stations. I think this is what broadcastguy was saying. Some people have an outdoor antenna. WVLT does stream on the web. It seems that Philly area radio is going down another notch in quality if the translator is given the green light by the fcc. I think we are out of notches.

Hold it, Hold it, you are all missing the best oldies station on the planet and we have it here right in Philly over the air. WMGK Oldies 102.9 HD-2, the selection is the broadest I have ever heard since WCAU-FM, plenty of "oh wow" cuts and great stereo separation, and no commercials. So just go purchase an Insignia HD for around 50.00, or a Sparc system or maybe you have a new car with HD installed and enjoy. WOGL HD-2 plays some off the wall great 70 cuts also. For all you HD debunkers, as a true radio geek for ages I love the idea of listening to stations I love over the air not on the internet or satellite, so HD fits the bill for me.

If you want to hear oldies in this market over the air, and embrace HD radio you are covered, you have WMGK-HD-2 for 50's, 60's and very early 70's oldies, WOGL-HD-2 for 70's oldies, WBEB-HD-2 for 80's oldies and WSTW-HD-2 for a blend of 60's, 70's and 80's soft oldies.

WHAT 92.1 is going to be a local low power north Philly translator, I don't think its going to cause harm to the signal in South Jersey. If the FCC approved this signal that means that WHAT was able to demonstrate that the signal will not cause interference.

The translator will use a directional antenna using a Figure 8 pattern oriented more or less east-west. The signal towards WVLT is sucked in extremely tight. The bottom line is that WVLT (which I also enjoy listening to and I live NW of Philly) has a 54 dBu signal (the protected contour) that just BARELY hits the Delaware River around Philly. The translator pattern will tachnically protect WVLT under the rules.

It may not be to the liking of some, including me, but it's a done deal. Petitioning, complaining, etc, if you are trying to lksten outside of the WVLT 54 dbu contour will mean nothing to the commission. It's all pergectly legal. See the link to the translator's proposed coverage below:
