WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES FOR "COASTAL CAROLINA"S MODERN ROCK 98.7"

Here we go 98.7 is a 100,000 watt signal that serves a huge chunk of North Carolina and some of South Carolina.

It is a known fact that it will be a 90s based modern rocker, that being said.

Sunrise does not seem to make blunders in my opinion. I am hoping they will have a wide playlist of songs that will utilize 80s alternative as well as some classics from the early 00s IE a Gen X format but in modern rock form.

I only hope they do not play the same 500 songs over and over again; the 90s had so many great artiest and too many timeless tracks to count. If they have a huge playlist ready to go I hope they don't shrink it as most stations debut with 1,000 songs and after a month they are down to 300; I don't understand why stations do this.

98.7 is covering such a huge area that if I ran the station I would have more than one station vehicle and do remotes from Wilmington to Wallace as the old "Lite 98.7" did.

In "The Wilmington Star News" Sunrise says they are going to be family friendly and refuse any adds from adult entertainment; GOOD I love friendly events where t shirts and tickets are handed out with a smile. I'm sorry but the fact that The Bone is always at a strip club every time I turn around is just pure trash.

I am hoping everyone from the PD down to the jocks are live, local and most of all know their community and know what they are doing.

Bottom Line is I hope the new 98.7 is a well oiled machine of a radio station and not another "Lite" or "Will" with a rock twist.

What are your hopes and suggestions?

If anyone could send a clear message to "The Bone", "The Hawk", and "The Penguin", they could, one or two
of those may be looking for changing formats, but let's see if 98.7 can garnish listenership.

My hope was that this would become 98.7 Will FM again. I still don't really understand why that station went away. It was a perfect format for the demographics of Wilmington.

How do you do family friendly modern rock?

The 90s artists in the format are Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden.

Some of the more family-friendly artists have kind of made it into the mainstream, but they wouldn't exactly be modern rock.

Maybe some modern rock/pop or even alternative crossovers will be thrown in who knows what Sunrise is up too. I really hope they don't screw this up as I grew up on 90s music so I have been craving anything from that decade not just on the weekends IE Sunny 104.5. If this is indeed the case it should be interesting to see how Sunny reacts with their weekends later on down the line. GNI hes had 80s for decades so Sunny ditched their 80s stuff and went all 90s on the weekends. I smell direct competition and Sunny is climbing with each rating period; but back to my guess for 98.7. Again if it is true and runs 24/7 with some 80s and 00s tracks this is going to get very interesting real fast.

Family friendly you ask :) My answer is simple. Do not accept adult entertainment ads or go to strip clubs like The Bone. Always have friendly staff on and off the air. Have your remotes at businesses that already have traffic from families IE car dealers or grocery stores. Last and most important whatever you do DON"T play songs where every other word has to be edited or cut out; Coast 97.3 and Z1075 I'm looking at you.

While I am thinking about ratings....anybody know when the fall ratings will be available to look at for Wilmington?

The only people I can think of who might be family friendly are Barenaked Ladies, Smash Mouth ("Shrek"), Dave Matthews Band, REM, They Might Be Giants and Creed.

I was going to say Chumbawamba, but seems like other than that one song they're not family-friendly.

Goo Goo Dolls are more along the lines of AC or Gen X radio. I was hoping we would be getting something like WIGX on Long Island http://formatchange.com/94-3-wmjc-becomes-gen-x-radio-94x/ but I think it is safe to say we are getting modern rock. Take a look http://radioinsight.com/2010/post-christmas-format-change-rundown/ I don't think this is a set up for something else but I have a hunch this modern rocker is going to be programmed very well....Sunrise is surely not like CBS or Clear Channel.

Just for your information, the jocks currently on Surf 98.3 will move to "Modern Rock 98.7", they have a "Facebook"
page set-up.
