I would say most of the recent damage to power is strictly correlated with the entry of Latino 96.3. The recent changes in Power, particularly the good mixes, seem to have hurt Latino and make power look very good again.

Overall KIIS moving rhythmic was one of the best decisons in recent LA radio history.

I bet Latino 96.3 sounds very good. I haven't heard them yet, but I've heard about them and have some idea of what they play. I know Dj Eddie One does some house (and maybe even booty bass), so it's got to be at least somewhat of a dance friendly station. As a matter of fact, I think I'd like it more than KVIB here in Phoenix.

And, like in so, so maaaaaaaaaany things, you are wrong. A "Spanish station" is a station in Spain. An English station is one in England. And so on.
Spanish is a language, not a format.

True, a Spanish station is in Spain, but they are known like that here too. Spanish Language stations would be the term used here in the USA. You wouldn't call them "Latino" stations or "Hispanic" stations, they are "Spanish Language" stations. Remember Spanish is also spoken throughout the Americas.

Yes, and just because some people don't use the proper term does not make it correct.

You wouldn't call them "Latino" stations or "Hispanic" stations, they are "Spanish Language" stations.

A "Latino" station could be in Portuguese or Spanish or English. An Hispanic targeted station could be in English or Spanish. KIIS is an Hispanic targeted station, as witnessed by the fact over half its cume is Hispanic. Same for KPWR.

Remember Spanish is also spoken throughout the Americas.

Having worked in 17 of the Spanish speaking countries, I'm aware of that.

I have listened to both in the last few weeks, extensively. KVIB (enjoy it before Liberman takes it over) is more pop, Latin rhythmic, etc. KXOL is reggaeton and hip hop in English, with evenings now mostly English language hip-hop. Very, very different.

Does this mean that it will completely change formats, become top 40 spanish, or just a slight tweak? It's changed quite a few times... and I think it's probably at it's best now, but could be way better if they made it more like Latino 96.3 while keeping some it's own elements mixed in as well.

The word from LA Liberman world headquarters is that it will be Regional Mexican with Don Cheto in mornings, networked from LA. Liberman needs the regional format to support his TV acquisition in Phoenix.

So.... now we're left with NO top 40 spanish at all! Not even something close. Hopefully one of the other spanish stations decide to change...
