What Dallas/Ft Worth radio stations from yesteryear do you miss?

I also miss Y-95, especially Wendy !! She was so hot back in 1988. I LOVED her poster, almost as good as Farrah Fawcett's poster back in the 70's. Yes, I'm dating myself.

I remember seeing her in a Y-95 commercial that also featured the The Morning Guys, Trey & Bill. I recall Wendy as a really cute blonde with curly hair. Wendy would go on to KIIS Los Angeles. I recently heard an aircheck of her from 1990 at KIIS. Another Y-95 alum, Billy Burke, would also later wind up at KIIS. I remember hearing him at KIIS in the late 90s. As for The Morning Guys, Bill Evans is still doing TV weather at WABC in New York. You might recall he did weekend weather at WFAA while also working for Y-95. As for Trey Mathews, last time I heard (a few years ago) he was working at a AAA station in Mobile.

Trey was the morning guy at WZEW in Mobile, but he, and much of the rest of the staff, was RIF'ed in the "Valentines Day Massacre" in 2009.

I miss the local days of WBAP, pre-bomb tossing talk..when they played country music and had Bill Mack on overnights...always fell asleep to that show when I was a kid..

KFAD, Arlington in the late 1960s and early 1970s and later as KAMC in AOR days
Thanks for recalling that time! My one and only job in radio was a DJ at KFAD from Nov '70 until April '71.

KLUV . . . anytime pre-Jody Dean and the Morning Teem (sic) and their switch to 70s music.

We haven't had a true, listenable Oldies station within a 70-mile radius in, what, 3-4 years now.

:( :( :( :( :(

That's because the demo for "Oldies" (it's not called that anymore, btw) doesn't try new products. If you can't sell the airtime, there's no point playing the music.

Megapsycle - what shifts did you do at KFAD way back then?

I recall the mornng weekday jock playing the top 50 before going AOR at noon. As I recall, he had a tendency of reading the top of the hour news, saying he was going to pay the bills, normally reading a single commercial then an AOR presentation of top 40 through the rest of the hour commercial free...likely summer of 1969.

Remembered hearing about Hendrix and then Joplin die listening to KFAD. Lots of talk about Woodstock too. I was between 8th & 9th grade back then.

KGVL! The Big 14 GVL! (1400 AM!)

though, hardly listenable over most of the metro.

Midnight - 6 Tues-F, Midnight - 6 Sunday morning, and 2-7 Sunday afternoon. Fortunately for me this was at the old house on Main Street in Cleburne, and I got to stay there during the week. That was shut down in Feb '71 and everything moved to the studio in Arlington. Had been about 50/50 from Cleburne and Arlington, switching studios at 6 am and 6 pm daily.

I sure wish they were stronger in NW Dallas. They are in AM Stereo too!

What about the old 570 KRQX??
The reason I still have 5 AM-Stereo radios. I guess I kinda went overboard with KRQX and the novelty of AM-Stereo.

Wendy was SMOKING hot in that poster. Wow !! Trey & Bill were great too, I really enjoyed them. One of them, I think it was Bill Evans, lost a bet to Trey and the bet was if Bill lost, he would water ski on Lake Caroline (Las Colinas Canals area) in winter. He lost the bet and did go water skiing during the winter. YIKES !!

I also remember when the Edge 94.5 first came on the air, it was a female and a guy I think named Roger. Roger made a bet with her that the Cowboys would win against Phoenix when the Cowboys were AWFUL and he won the bet. Whoever won the bet, the other would be their coffee slave for the week. I called in to remind him about that on Monday, so they invited me up to the station one morning that week. They even let me do the weather. It was cool. I still have a cassette of me doing the weather.

I used to DJ back in high school and college some. My claim to fame. LOL !!
