WHAT DO YOU FEEL IT TAKES TO BECOME A FEMALE SHOCK JOCK IN THE CITY?

Wow. That's actually a very good answer.

If you're tight with O&A, you should be able to get some face time with the PD of K-Rock, right? If you're as well-spoken on the radio as you were in your last post, you're already better than half the liner card crap I hear on the radio these days.

Thank you, I really appreciate that. I'm on good terms with the O&A crew and am close to a DJ at K-Rock as well, so I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. However, K-Rock isn't a station that's willing to take a rookie (which is exactly what I am when compared to most of the DJs that are and have been on WXRK). Even their weekenders are PDs at other stations. However, maybe in a good few years.

The problem is that pretty much ALL NYC stations aren't going to take a chance on a rookie. I think you're really going to have to look into starting in a smaller market. If your show is original, it shouldn't take too long to move up to the major leagues.

Interesting excerpt from Lex's bio page:

Been doing radio for a few years now and been listening to rock music for longer... I’ve grown up with 92.3 K-Rock in New York City and used to call in to the Howard Stern show from the very tender age of 13. (I am now ashamed of that fact) My favorite DJ is Nik Carter (no, not the Backstreet Boy, you idiot) so now you know why some of the jokes I say on the air sound a little familiar.

Your point being?

No, I just find it interesting that you now find yourself "ashamed" of conversing with the host that many talkers in the genre - from O&A to Bubba to even yourself - have inspired to get into the business. I know I'd be lying if I didn't owe an ounce of credibility to Stern with the launch of my Internet station - some of the liners are snarky, but not in a "Jack-FM" kinda way...

By the way, lovely use of the word "whooping". I wish I could see it more often than I see mispronunciations of "Whoppi's" name...

The "shame" comes from the fact that I'm an Opie and Anthony fan and the fact that I talked to Stern at the dumb age of 13 and having nothing interesting to say. Naturally, I give Stern a lot of credit as an on-air personality and he did inspire me to do radio.

Well, based on how well-spoken you are on this forum, you certainly have come a long way! I'm sure you come across the same way on your radio program. Is there a podcast for those who missed last night's show?

There usually are podcasts, but we've been having some problems with our recording software the past few days.

Now the issue I have with this post is, a lot of stations in smaller markets are now VTracking from lager markets, Dont get me wrong I am one of the select few that has reaped the benefit of a smaller market Farm system, but as a whole, its not looking good.

Back to this whole "Shock Jock" thing. its 2008, look at the times we live in now, what is really so shocking?

Cockroach question

I'm curious about something (And this totally not ment sarcastically or negatively).

How come you guys refer to yourselves as a "superstation"? That term is incorrect unless you have satellite distribution through a network provider (such as WPIG in California, carried by DialGlobal) and have affiliates. TBS, for example, is a superstation because it is a local tv station that has its programming lineup sent to cable systems nationally. WPIX-New York had a similar arrangement. Are you folks involved with any network distribution (other then internet).

Thanks!
AG

The channel is a "talk superstation" because it offers a wide variety of talk programming under so many different genres. Comedy. Sports. Reality. Political. Paranormal. Commentary. Cutting edge humor. Throw it all together - I would call that a "super station".

To be a female shock jock, you must be a hot bi-lesbian. This cited as most shock jocks center a lot of content around hot women. Look at Stern's obsession with girl on girl content.

Lex, I subscribe to Sirius. I stopped listening to Stern on a daily basis several months ago. Know why? Every time I tune in, it's the same shit he's done for 25 years. I don't care who the B-list chick celebrity has slept with. I care about Robin reading the news and hearing Artie joke about the stories.

Stern is HYSTERICAL on Sirius! With no FCC regulations...fantastic. Henry Hill getting @ss banged and then $#!tting his pants. Like watching a train wreck. Its horrible that I say that, but its REALLY funny to hear. Then the stuff he has the chics doing in studio now, out of control! Even better, I remember somebody losing their mind on Robin in studio, screaming and cursing like somebody really does when they are POed. They could never have that argument on the fm dial. There are no boundries. Its def NOT the same shit. Its a whole new level of insanity.

His show on SIRIUS really seperates the king from all the pretenders. Like how Mancow dropped the ball on being the next Stern. I remember that cover on R&R.

How a 100 local active rock morning shows try, but cant even come close.
