What do you guys and gals think of louie 104.3???

I am not a fan!!!I dont think i have ever heard a safer radio station!!!Every one of there songs they play i dont care for at all!!!

It is sad i enjoy delilah on that station alot more then the regular playlist of louie. For there is not a whole lot of overlap between delilahs playlist and louies playlist. Between the three light rock stations i would listen to light 106.9 anyday. But i do realize louie is not geared towards someone with my taste in music. My stations of choice are 99.7 djx and wfpk 91.9

It's a great station. but I wish they would drop Delilah. Can't stand to listen to her.

but I'm a 40ish, white male. Go figure.

I think they have a good product and are pretty focused. Plus, they have a good local presence. I just wish they would pump up their processing a little.

I think they are plenty loud enough and sound pretty good.

I heard Joe Fedele promoting a live appearance. With Rocky and Troy / Joe being live and local, they have a good thing product. But they still aren't doing crap in the ratings.

Greg, don't count on the ratings book on its face to determine the audiences. I don't think Louie 104.3 subscribes to the very expensive Arbitron service, so they aren't mentioned to non-subscribers...only the 12+ numbers of subscribing stations.

Apparently neither does Mainline, which had the #3, #4, and #7 stations (WGZB, WMJM, WDJX) the last time they subscribed and were listed in the April '13 survey. They haven't gone anywhere...looking at an Arbitron ratings book in this and many other markets is like looking at an incomplete jigsaw puzzle!

Once Eastlan Ratings, the competitor to Arbitron in smaller markets gains steam and expands to the Top 75 markets, I hope we'll see some competition like we did with Arbitron vs Birch-Scarborough ratings in the '80s and early '90s.

Yeah. Being as I've been around this block a time or two, I know all that.

And I also know Louie isn't doing crap in the ratings.

Just what I would expect from a David Smith project. Everything where it should be, great, local Jocks, promotions, music intensive and as Hot Patrick pointed out, "SAFE!" It's a winning combination, but...has anyone else ever noticed that the BIG signals always win in Arbitron? And not just in Louisville. It' pretty hard to compete with the Big signals if you're on a low power stick. L

They sound fine. If you want them to be louder, I'd suggest you use the 'volume' knob on the radio. Louisville is such a fragmented market, all the stations below the top three have to fight for every share point they get. And the top three are pretty much there by default. Revenue is where it's at, and I understand Louie is doing pretty good in that department.

QMF is not setting any fires on it's high powered stick. A couple of class A's are beating it.

Very true about the sound of the station, Les. You won't hear any tune-outs. With time and promotion it'll probably grow.

Of course there are exceptions to the rule about big sticks, but that's a factor. So what is Louie capable of with their stick? Can they ever hope for a 2 share?

Sure WLUE and hope for a 2.0 share. WTFX does it on a class A rimshot

Well, Louie is an even worse Class A rimshot. So that's no indicator.

And WTFX had a 2+ share on their first day on the 93.1 rimshot frequency, thanks to a 20 year headstart on the big stick 100.5. That's a huge difference.

Louie is a great little station, and I've no doubt that Louie could maintain a 2 share if they could ever get there. The question is- how to get there?

First we'll deal with the "BIG Stick" issue. There are exceptions to every rule in Radio and we have those in Louisville. I'm looking at the latest ARB ratings. Spring phase 1 12+ published last Tuesday. The two biggest sticks are at #1 and #2. The next 3 through 6 are big sticks. Not all stations are listed in this breakout because some don't subscribe to the service. I think we can all agree that DJX is in the top 10. Big Stick. Your exceptions are Magic and GZB, always in the top 10. RKA and WAKY spend some time in and out of the top 10. Again, we're talking 12+ numbers. LGX and QMF are big sticks and spend time in the top 10. I think we're talking 80% of top 10 stations in Louisville are "BIG Sticks." And when it comes to agency buys we're talking 5 deep over-all and there are exceptions to this too.

Can Louie ever score above a 2 share? Sure. It will take some time but it's hard to get consumers to change brands. Louie brought back the "Rocky & Troy" brand in the morning and that will help. As I recall, they were the biggest local morning show in the 80s and 90s. Joe in the afternoons may not be a brand but he's been on the air in Louisville since he left the Lewis and Clark expedition to settle here and Deiliah was on VEZ for a long time. Like I said, it's a winning combination. It will take some time. Will they ever spend time in the top 10 12+? What are your thoughts?

The fox was on 100.5 for twelve years till they got demoted to 93.1 and that horrible louie station. Sorry but i didnt like either louie and i thought 100.5 was a better louie but i did not like them either.

To much 70s music on both louies!!!I really dont care for 70s music and the only stuff in the 80s i like is alternative like the smiths pixies etc...

I rmemeber when i was a kid and going to tour the lrs studios at the 800 bldg and i asked them about there ratings and they said" well there out" they were number 7 over all and were not happy with that back then. I think the max which is now on 102.3 and lrs would have love to be number 7 today.

Funny how times change!!!

How do we know they aren't there now?

I don't think they can hit top 10. You've got your 8 big sticks in town (counting WAKY and WSFR), your two guaranteed top 10 urbans, and the two downtown class As, WRKA and WXMA- both of which are always competitive. That's 14 stations vying for top 10 right there.

Which 4 of those are they going to knock off?

And I hear what you're saying about the weaker signals not always losing, but I think you need to own a niche in your market to make that work. Jumping in to the AC / Hot AC/ Adult Hits/ Classic Hits fray with the weakest signal of the bunch is pretty tough without massive promotions.
