I'm in Orlando for a week, and after listening even more to the station, I just wanted to re-state an opinion I mentioned earlier; "XL 106.7" is a horribly boring CHR. I've never thought XL was a very good CHR, but now, they sound just plain awful. There is no life or energy to the station at all. Presentation wise, it sounds like an AC playing CHR music. And what I hate the most are those stupid sweepers and jingles they are using now. I guess they are trying to be "hip" and use elements that don't sound like traditional sweepers and jingles, but to me they are just garbage. Also, what's up with all the cold segues of music. Geez, this is CHR/Top 40! I would never think of doing a cold segue on a CHR without some sort of element (jingle, sweeper, jock break, etc.)
If this is where CHR and radio in general are going, then I guess I won't be spending much time listening anymore. I've heard people say that with the new people meter that you are going to see more cold segues and fewer elements and if that is the case, I will hate it. Anyway, I guess the younger generations must prefer the bland, lifeless, approach because XL's numbers seem to be ok lately. But personally, I think they are one of the worst CHR's I've heard in a long time. I have no idea who is PD now, but I sure don't like the direction that has been taken and the "non-hype" approach to sweepers and jingles.
I'm spending most of my time listening to WVYB "the Vibe" Daytona, and WAOA "107-1 A1A" Melbourne while I'm down here this week. Granted, they are too adult leaning musically in my opinion, but at least the jingles and sweepers and elements sound like a real CHR/Top 40 station. (Man, do I miss stations like Y106, BJ 105, I100, and 95-3 Party. Someone needs to do CHR in Central FL. that isn't aimed at the very top of the 18-34 demo. How about a younger leaning mainstream CHR that doesn't put you to sleep. How about something along the lines of the new KKHH "Hot 95.7" Houston. Now that is the way CHR should sound).

Since I am in NW Fl the only Orlando listening I get to do is TKS either on my XM or streaming on line. I had started listening to TKS about four years ago off and on when in Orlando on business then cceng gave me a XM for Christmas when the entire TKS lineup was on XM.
The big draw for me then was the Monsters, then I became addicted to the whole weekday lineup.
The Phile is so formulaic and Phillips so self-aggrandizingly pseudo-intellectual that I stopped listening. For the most part I enjoy the Burke Show and the Monsters to a lesser degree since the show has become a constant pitch for their appearances, plugs, and stunts.
Most of the listening I do these days is to pandora.com; I've built two radio stations there

The State of Orlando Radio.....sorry,gotta go Voice Track another 9 Hour Shift.
Well, for now, I don't think things are looking good for radio in Orlando... or anywhere else for that matter. With the way the economy is lately, broadcasters aren't the only ones suffering through these tough times. Just read a couple of articles where Cox Radio's Q2 numbers were significantly down as well as CBS Radio. This year has turned out to be a rough one for radio, with well-known jocks getting cut and sales dropping. Plus, I don't even want to think about the merger between Sirius and XM. It's lookin' downright fugly, and I'm hoping this market rebounds soon.

Breakfast Club - Bill & Jeff - Best morning show in Orlando radio history
I've heard them all, the good, the bad and the ugly and in my opinion nothing has come close to creativity, the smarts, the chemistry and the complete originality, the "never know what they'l do next" breath of
fresh air madness of the the Breakfast Flakes. Looking back with the hindsight of history to help me, I can only marvel at how freaking great - how ahead of their time they were. I'd pay good money to get my hands on a best of Bill and Jeff CD. Why doesn't somebody at an Orlando station track them down and put them on the air again. I remember that the best moments of that show was when Bill and Jeff threw away their scripts and just talked with each other. They were a perfect team. Anybody know how to find those guys and get the ball rolling. When they got the axe my girlfriend -now my wife said that taking away Bill and Jeff was a sin. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest

Wow. I had no idea 96.5 came in in vero beach. Back when I lived in Palm Bay, I was the king at getting 105.9. That is what really taught me about DX. Same with going to the Florida school for the def and blind in St. Augustine.
Soap box time. As someone else posted earlier, radio's not so good in Orlando or anywhere else for that matter. Where to begin, well let's start with 98.9 WMMO. They stopped playing currents a while back and are now calling themselves Orlando's classic hits, yawn. Years ago I once read a post on rock based classic hits formats and someone referred to it as wuss rock. That fits well. They should have stayed AAA, but that's an old argument.
WOTW is cheaping out and running mostly Nash country programing. Station can't crack a 1 share. Guess they'll have to get used to being the fly to the K-92.3 elephant.
950 WTLN is now on an FM translator at 94.9. Why don't we just fill in every open frequency now. This translator BS is beyond ridiculous.
Now that 1190 WAMT went back to the brokered Haitian programing, it seems that some of the programs that were on there have moved to 1080 WHOO, heh, some sports station.
Speaking of sports, out in Brevard County 95.9 WSJZ flipped from sports back to active rock. The sports programing is now on the resurrected AM 1560 WLZR. I thought that frequency was put to rest here. Guess cumulus bought some copper. However the station is still a 5000 watt daytimer. I'm sorry, but I still cannot grasp the concept of a sports station that signs off at night, the time when most sports are played. There must be some very special reason the FCC won't grant them at least 40, 50 watts to cover Melbourne at night.
Time to get off of the box. Someone else's turn now : )

What happened to WHOO is something I would've expected from WRSO before that. I mean, seriously. They play nothing on CBS Sports Radio besides Jim Rome. He is literally the only reason to listen to WRSO.
WHOO has totally gone to crap. It's always been a daytimer as well. Not even Monday Night Football can be heard worth anything. Michael Savage does not belong on a sports radio station.

WPOZ Z88.3:
Positive messages, plus up to date traffic & weather that is most reliable.
Sounds great & probably the best sounding station overall in the market!
WUCF 89.9:
I enjoy a little jazz every now & then.
WUCF 89.9HD2:
I absolutely LOVE their HD2 Classics!
This needs to be on a main FM somewhere.
WMFE 90.7:
3 + 1 words: All Things Considered + Echoes = Good.
(Okay, that was 5 words, not including this unnecessary sentence.)

Nice to still hear what used to be on the main FM.
WPRK 91.5:
I am completely biased about this awesome Rollins College radio station.
I would LOVE to hear what YOU guys think about my show & the station itself!
I work very closely with the Station Manager & Staff about everything that goes on with WPRK.

I LOVE the Throwback Hip-Hop & R&B & enjoy the mix shows that Kyle LaRue & DJ Caesar put on!
I know they tried to do ALL-Old School & Throwbacks a few months ago, but the listeners who voiced their opinion were right.
There should be a separate Classic Hip-Hop HD2 channel or on the main dial in this market!
(I'm getting wind of an LPFM that will be coming to 101.5 in Winter Park soon with a Classic Hip Hop format.)

I like their mix show format during afternoons & Sunday nights & their on-air talent is good overall.
Hot 95.9:
Still a great radio station & I like that they added more Christian Dance music.

96.9/97.1: I'm seeing some activity on this frequency here by iHeartMedia on Radio-Locator.
Looks like they are looking to have a more powerful translator signal here.
Is something else coming to one of these frequencies, besides the usual Reach-FM on 97.1?
WWRZ Max 98.3:
Although this station can only be heard on the west side of Orlando, I am liking this station more recently.
I have noticed that this station skewed to more recent Pop music, better suited for a person in their 30's, like myself.
I love the variety!

Skewing Classic Hits from their previous format was probably a really good decision.
I am enjoying more life on this station now.

In my opinion, this station is in more competition with XL than Amp is.
The personalities sound upbeat & great on here, even on location!

Their Saturday Night Classic Dance Showcase has to be one of the best things to happen to Orlando radio in the past few years!

Still a great mix of Alternative music!

I'm also biased about this, since I was on "Johnny's House" last year.
I have never been a fan of "power rotations", which plays a huge part in my continuous listening for this station here, but that's just my opinion.
Besides that, the station, the on-air staff, & the imaging are on point, along with Club & Extreme XL!
#3 on my presets.
X107.3:
The songs that are in rotation here are also in WPRK's CD library (Yes, I said "CD"!).
Although X107.3 is completely automated, I still enjoy this station, because it's different.
It's like an Alternative station with a little of XL's Pop mixed in.
WMGF Magic 107.7:
This station is turning into something I enjoy a little more as they have recently skewed more 80's & 90's in their playlist.
WLOQ 107.7HD2:
I miss Smooth Jazz on the main FM.
WLBE 790AM:
What a great change from brokered Talk to Oldies!
Although it was only a short period of time, I am thankful (especially to O.K. Walters) to have been a part of the launch of the Oldies format back in 2012!
Still a great sounding station!
I hope I redeemed myself to prospective employers 7 years after that last haphazard post.
I've met many of you who work in radio since & I agree that it is like family, even though we are on different stations.
Even though this is a board full of opinions, I regret any negative posts I have made here throughout the years toward any particular person & I sincerely apologize for it.
You might have negative things to say about my own radio show, so lay it on me as payback if you wish. I deserve it. And I will use that to continuously improve myself.

Hey DJ MO. Quick question for you man. How drivable is WLBE in the Altamonte area? I moved to Brandon a few months ago but still catch your show on tunein. I did not have a chance to listen to wlbe while driving around in that area. I know wvlg is not too drivable in that area. I still say that oldies on the Orlando AM radio is still viable. And what the heck is up with 810 and their signal? They are just as bad as 1080. Talk about absolutely crap signals....... Heck 810 and 1080 are not too drivable in Apopka. But 540 has an outstanding signal. I'd love to hear the old wgto from the early 90s on that channel. that channel blares right in like a local here in Brandon. Talk about a 50000 watt blowtorch. But if you ever come up to this Tampa direction then tune to 1150 AM. it's a really good station. It's like 94.5 a little bit. It sounds really good on AM.
WLBE My790AM comes in okay west of I-4 during the day before 6pm.
After 6pm, I would need to find a really good sweet spot with the AM antenna.
I haven't been paying much attention to AM since True Oldies & Radio Disney went away.
A few of the AM stations have FM translators nowadays, like WRSO CBS Sports 810AM on 93.1, WTLN 950AM on 94.9, WRMQ Rejoice 1140AM on 103.7, & WFLA 540AM on 102.5.

Keep in mind that WRSO has a very critical four-tower directional antenna pattern, protecting 50kw WWBA-AM 820 Largo; 1kw WPLK-AM 800 Palatka; both Florida, 2.5kw WZYN-AM 810 Hahira, Georgia and 5kw WQIZ-AM 810 Saint George, South Carolina. Having recently upgraded its daytime signal to 20kw, WRSO covers East Florida along the Atlantic Coast quite well from New Smyrna Beach to Rockledge.
