What do you think of the band ozomatli annouced as the new 98.7 morning show???

I was surprised i thought they were pleased with lisa she has been there forever. She has done every shift i believe. She use to do afternoons with mr seacrest and for the moment she competes with him.

I was watching a rerun of beverly hills 90210 from 2000 and ryan played agame show host but i digress sorry.

Wonder what they will do with lisa? But sounds like an interesting choice for a morning show kinda reminds me when indie 1031 hired dicky barrett who use to be with mighty might bosstones for mornings.

I don't think i have seen any clear channel station such as this one tinker with there format and talent as much as this one.

Opinions

Hopatrick out ;D

I like the idea a lot

I think it will mean a lot more music in the mornings which is fine with me really. I have been impressed with KYSR lately. At first, like everyone else I was skeptical of the whole package.

With the last book and PPM and now this, I think we will continue to see a good fight with KROQ. Fights only make radio better for me to listen to IMO

Sounds like a cost cutting move to me....
How do you conclude that? I would imagine it would cost a lot more to keep a whole band together. Of coarse they could now sing all the songs on 98.7, saving CC bucket loads of cash in indie promo fees... :p

True. On the downside, will probably be the final nail in the Indie coffin...?

Going slightly off track, if it works it could start a trend for other stations, or give CC a music intensive syndicated morning drive show to market.

Stations don't pay promo fees.

I get the feeling that this a an LA specific strategy to get at KROQ from the Hispanic side. KYSR is already 35% Hispanic, while KROQ is 25%. If KYSR peels more Hispanics from KROQ, they can come rather close to achieving a tie.

It will not put the final nail in t he coffin for indie. For kysr and kroq do compete with one another but indie 1031 does not cater to the same listener and neither does 100.3 the sound so guys and gals keep saying how indie is gonna die and they will continue to thrive.

Thrive? Indie is being killed in the PPM, with share down to a 0.3, which is about 1/15th the share level of KROQ, which increased in the PPM. Indie is 47th out of 51 stations or simulcasts that made the book; it is in a virtual tie with Jill, too.

STAR is a nonstop joke. I completely agree this is a vehicle to grab Latino listeners. The downside is that I can't stand that band. So why would I listen to them host a show? Didn't people learn from David Lee Roth? Very few can make the transition and be successful. Lisa did a great job. Clear Channel just left her out to dry. She's a total team player and I respect her very much. KYSR will never compete with KROQ. They want to play just enough lite rock to keep the ratings up in the Women 18-49 demo. It's all about the advertising dollars. The reality is this station has no soul or clear and defined direction. That's why listenership will never be huge.

Well, there is a simple solution....

Didn't people learn from David Lee Roth?

The upside to it is, this could be a local show, so talent coaching will probably a lot easier.

KYSR will never compete with KROQ. They want to play just enough lite rock to keep the ratings up in the Women 18-49 demo

However, if they achieve the right mix, they may just pull off the impossable, selling a modern rock station to an audience that traditionally wouldn't go near it.

Re: What do you think of the band ozomatli annouced as the new 98.7 morning show

I hear from the inside that each band member is getting a million each per year and they signed a 5 year no cut deal. This will start a trend in radio. You wait KEARTH 101 will soon sign "Charles Conner and The Upsetters" to do mornings there.

That station you do not like increaseed cume, in the book released today, to 1.8 million, increasingly close to KROQ's 2.4 million.

KYSR is already competing with KROQ.

Looking at the latest numbers, KROQ is still in a league of its own. Even with the PPM 987 isnt even in the neighborhood of KROQ in any of the target demos, and those for an Alternative Rock station.

KROQ looked real strong.

987 looks to be the same as it was when it was Star.

I hope the Ozomotli morning show works out, sounds like it could be fun. Love 'em or hate 'em Kevin & Bean dominated alongside the Seamonster. Gonna be tuff to beat.

Are they canning Lisa Foxx? She's still on the air and on the website. Maybe morning show side kick?

No way they're getting a mil a year.

Lisa Foxx goes to weekends to work out her contract. Or work through another management change, when she'll be able to go back to weekdays. She's stayed through an amazing number of changes.
