What does kroq need to do to get there overall numbers up against alt 98.7 KYSR?

I realize the overall numbers really don't tell you about the health of the station. But for awhile kroq was keeping it close with KYSR but now not so much.

But is Kroq keeping it close with 25-54? At least Kroq isnt doing as badly as they were when Mike Kaplan was in charge. I still think the woody show on kysr much better then Allie/Klein show on Kroq

Personally I liked Stryker teamed up with Klein much moreso then with Allie.

The music seems a bit harder rock on KROQ lately. The AM Show sounds great, curious how they perform vs Woody.

There’s nothing to do. The only logical format for KROQ to flip to is sports. But that costs money and the only rights they could shake down and get at this point are the Angels. But, it’s not worth it for Audacy at this point. KROQ will forever be in the middle of the pack, just like Power 106.

I think Mike Kaplan is responsible for some of this. I would not have just upright fired the whole morning show. I personally like Kroq better except for the morning show.

I think the woody show is much better then Klein/Allie show. It's bad enough 1 of there signals 97.1 was given up for a non music format not hopefully that will never happen again!!!

The rhythmic / urban stations have growth potential as the market, particularly in the sales demos, becomes more and more Hispanic. But the rock formats have little to gain, as "white flight" and the decreasing number of rock partisans overall reduce each year, a little bit, the cume potential of those stations.

KROQ has had the same basic sound since Weatherly came back a few years ago with only a mild improvement in ratings. I’m surprised they haven’t tried to follow the 91X 80s to now alternative formula as it seems to being doing well for them the last few years. They would be competing with sister Jack fm a bit more but as David has pointed out before it’s not so much the shared music as the way it’s being presented.

I see nothing noteworthy in that regard. Maybe in L.A., you folks consider emo to be harder rock.

I completely agree that KROQ should've flipped to classic alt or at least an approach with a heavy classic alt emphasis. Big song list with a median song year of 1995, reaching as far back as late 70s (on rare occasion) and playing little music beyond 2008 or thereabouts.

Although I'd take Kevin Weatherly over Mike Kaplan all day long, I thought Audacy should've hired someone else to program KROQ. The station was an also-ran for the last several years of Weatherly's original tour of duty. Doug "Sluggo" Roberts would've been a good choice. One of the folks behind 91X's turnaround would be worthy of consideration, too.

Audacy has a ROQ of the 80s HD2 that KROQ would also be competing with if they did that, plus they have a Flashback Sunday show already.

Why would they do that when people in LA can simply tune down the dial for that? Plus KROQ has more than double the share of KCSN.
If they can pull in SoCal Sound. The first image is the coverage of SoCal Sound (KCSN - Northridge) which is simulcast from second image (KSBR - Saddleback College) and then compare with KROQ and KLOS.

My shouting on a crowded street corner would get more ears than an HD2 stream.

The existence of HD2 or HD3 programming should be a non-factor in deciding programming strategy for an analog FM signal.
