Crawfordville, as in Florida or Georgia?

Either way that's quite a catch to hear WCMA. Dunno what's up with them, maybe they couldn't afford the power bill.

WCMA has a STA to remain silent till sometime in October. The information below is from there STA application that is on the FCC web site.

Exhibit 1
Description: JUSTIFICATION FOR STA

THE LICENSEE IS REQUESTING SPECIAL TEMPORARY AUTHORITY FOR THE STATION TO GO SILENT BECAUSE OF TECHNICAL ISSUES IT HAS UNCOVERED ONLY RECENTLY. FIRST, THE NEW TRANSMITTER THE LICENSEE PURCHASED WAS TYPE-ACCEPTED TO OPERATE BETWEEN 10KW AND 50KW. THE LICENSEES CHIEF ENGINEER (WHO IS ALSO THE HOLDER OF AN FCC FIRST CLASS OPERATORS LICENSE) TESTED THE UNIT AT ITS AUTHORIZED CRITICAL HOUR POWER (2.5 KW) AND CONCLUDED THAT THE TRANSMITTER WOULD BE ABLE TO OPERATE WITHIN TOLERANCE AND IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL FCC RULES AT 2.5 KW. THE CHIEF ENGINEER (LICENSED FCC FIRST CLASS OPERATOR) SUBSEQUENTLY PROVIDED THE LICENSEE WITH A SIGNED WRITTEN STATEMENT, INCLUDING FIELD STRENGTH AND SPECTRUM ANALYSIS MEASUREMENTS AT BOTH 50KW AND 2.5KW DOCUMENTING COMPLIANCE WITH ALL FCC RULES.

THERE NOW SEEMS TO BE SOME CONCERN THAT THE TRANSMITTER MAY NOT BE OPERATING WITHIN TOLERANCE AT 2.5KW. HAVING RECEIVED CONFLICTING VIEWPOINTS ON THIS MATTER, THE LICENSEE INTENDS TO EITHER OBTAIN A DEFINITIVE ANSWER OR SIMPLY PURCHASE A SECOND TRANSMITTER TO HANDLE CRITICAL HOUR AND THE STATIONS NEWLY AUTHORIZED NIGHTTIME OPERATION.

THE LICENSEE HAS ALSO HAD A SECURITY BREACH OF THE STATIONS COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE LICENSEE HAS NOTICED UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO THE STATIONS AUTOMATION SYSTEM HAS OCCURRED. THE LICENSEE HAS ALSO NOTICED THAT THE UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ACCESS TRANSMITTER CONTROLS AS WELL. TO AVOID ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS, THE LICENSEE NEEDS TO CONDUCT A FULL INSPECTION OF THE STUDIO CHAIN AND THE COMPUTER HARDWARE TO SEE WHAT HAS BEEN COMPROMISED, WHAT CAN BE FIXED AND WHAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE LICENSEE WILL THEN REPLACE OR INSTALL COMPUTER SYSTEMS (HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE, AS NEEDED) TO IMPROVE SECURITY AND REPAIR/REPLACE THE EXISTING AUTOMATION SYSTEM.

THE LICENSEE HAS CONCLUDED THAT THESE REPAIRS WOULD MOST EFFECTIVELY BE ACCOMPLISHED BY TAKING THE STATION SILENT FOR A SHORT PERIOD, HOPEFULLY NO MORE THAN 90 DAYS. THEREFORE, A 90 DAY STA FOR THE STATION TO BE SILENT IS RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED.

Actually those YouTube videos are pretty interesting.

The licensee of WCMA, interestingly enough, also has an STA for the other station it owns,
WTKN-AM 1230 in Corinth, MS. An FCC inspection brought about WTKN's silent status, although the
STA request also mentions "security breaches to the station's computers.."

So, the licensee, Perihelion Global, has two silent stations. Sounds like a company really on top of things. ;D

Google "PRGL.PK" and read the Yahoo stock trading message boards.
There are, um, strong opinions about the parent company and its practices.

Re: WCMA on iHub

Seems there is quite a bit going on behind the scenes with WCMA.

As someone who tried for YEARS to find a reasonable AM station to purchase, it still
bothers me when the FCC grants licenses to people who have absolutely no intention
of operating in the public interest.

1560 in Dothan was once a southern gospel station (as WTKN) and was News Talk before
that time.

This entity has two silent stations and the CEO has a CP to build a third station on 1590
in Opp, Alabama. (What? When they can't get their two stations on the air now?)

This licensee has apparently lied to the FCC and the company appears to be a fraud:

FCC: Why couldn't these licenses be yanked from this entity and granted to a BROADCASTER?
