What happens if Imus does well in Atlanta radio?

Since the I-man is still fairly popular nationwide, if Imus does well as a syndicated morning show in Atlanta. Does Opie and Anthony have a chance?

I personally don't think Imus will do well here.
Who wants to listen to a mumbling has been, who has no relevance here?

When has a syndicated morning show done well in Atlanta? It's like the radio giants are determined to keep throwing them into the market until one sticks.

I hve listened to Imus since the 70's and he would be lucky to pull close to what rhubarb pulled.

Imus is a niche listen. His affiliates look to pull a small number of upscale listeners to sell to a very targeted audience. In his last incarnation, he had almost no real numbers to report outside of New York. His show was on mostly smaller AM's which generated enough dollars off of the show to make it worthwhile investment.

Anything his show does in Atlanta would not have any bearing on any decision regarding Opie and Anthony. That is truly Apples and Oranges.

Is Imus about to die or is that the way he sounds?

I think he actually did die back in 1993. Now they just use a bunch of audio clips and prop up an old decrepit Mannequin in the seat.

Is Imus paying us or are we paying Imus?

I thought in the 90s stations had to pay for the privilege of carrying Imus. Around 1996 he was even on WDAK 540 in Columbus but that lasted maybe a year at most.

I have on VHS from 1994 from CPAN when one time they showed his show from WFAN (prior to syndication) it was a hoot. Now since Imus imploded last year, he's way way way past jumping the shark.

Listening to Imus, it is painfully obvious that the person in charge of operation at WYAY doesn’t have a clue about syndicated programming execution. For that matter, you’d think the engineer would have a little more savvy. Levels all over the place, dead air, sloppy transitions. Why the hell are they using the oldies feed when Imus takes a break? There must be a dozen or so guys in Atlanta who could “ride the board” and do real time switching. As the Iman would say: “Jesus Gawd, can’t the station afford to pay a part timer to produce the show”? On another subject, I can’t remember the last time I heard a major market station playing PSA’s in morning drive. Bonus the hell out of the few remaining “Eagle” clients; at the very least record promos for the races and bonus the race sponsors. Truly unbelievable.

I do not have any experience with the ABC version of Imus, I do know from his Westwood One show that he had one of the hardest shows to produce locally as far as synidicated product. The show could not be automated, they took breaks whenever they felt like it and except for the top of the hour, (which they sometimes missed to) never hit a hard out.

Coming back, no countdowns just a brief music cue. No excuses, but it will take a run of the mill board op a couple of weeks to figure it all out.

They don't use the True Oldies feed during the breaks. Lou the board operator at WABC for the Imus show plays the oldies as bumper music.

Imus is forced to stick to the break times now that he is on ABC. The Westwood One feed was a mess because he would go in so many directions, never looking at the clock. So far, his WABC PD seems to be holding him in line (for how long, who knows!).

For feeds like Rush and Hannity you can automate. For the morning, you should have a board op at the very least. Sure, True Oldies will run itself the rest of the day just using your station pc. But morning needs a live assist.

I think the facilities that Imus broadcasts out of is not at WABC but a TV studio nearby for the RFD-TV simulcast, a facility that some posters elsewhere had described as technically inadequate (at least at the beginning of Imus' relaunch, I don't know about now)
