What has become of "The Tube" TV55 Houston?

Now part of the America One TV network, they've done away with all the classics. Although they've gotten away from this gradually throughout the years now the only remaining "actual TV show" is Gunsmoke which is mind boggling.

No more I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, Beverly Hillbillies or All in the Family. nope. Now they showed Canadian League Football (big ratings winner there lol) along with Fishing, racing, western theatre, garden and lifestyle shows which equal up to be as much fun as watching paid programming.

The last of the indy's in Houston down the drain. Never thought I would see the day when the Tube would be worse of a viewing option than KNWS TV51 but it's gotten to that point.

I have satellite so the Tube going this direction doesn't neccesarily affect me but rather my parents who enjoyed the classics that this station showed.

55 has the feel of a public access station...pitiful. At least 51 has Good Times and Sanford and Son (now running 2x a day) and i (49 and 33) is getting to be a classic TV station soon. Yeah, The Tube has gone down the tubes......

The Tube and KNWS both appear to be on their last legs. Remember a few years ago when KNWS had good, first-run shows like Judge Judy and Extra? Now they're trotting out moldy oldies like A Different World, Good Times and Sanford & Son. They're spending way less on programming, which isn't a good sign. The Tube had a great concept when it launched: quality classics. Over time, infomercials began to eat up more and more of the schedule. And, since the recent sale, things have gotten worse. The new fall lineup includes no classic TV ... just a mix of third-rate shows such as Recipe TV and Your New House, plus back-to-back afternoon movies. Weekends are worse ... full of infomercials and paid religious shows except from 5-11p Saturday and 4-10p Sunday. I wish one of the bigger stations in town would buy one or both of these stations. We'd see an instant improvement in programming. Look at KDFI in Dallas. Now a MyNet affiliate, it was an indy before that for many years owned by Fox's KDFW and featuring a full lineup of shows, new and old.

You mean "News 51 Houston"? It's been on it's last legs since it signed on. What a waste of a channel, but I suppose it's some better than the many informercials and bore that imminate from "The Tube".

Well starting next week at least TV51 adds classics: Happy Days, Little House on the Prairie and The Wild, Wild West. ;D

If you want to see a really crappy station, just watch KYTX's subchannel...."My Texas TV". Now that they are out of UPN and couldn't get the CW affiliation, they are going to more moldy oldies and spanish infomercials.

The tube does an "about face"

I have seen these shows return on "The Tube":
Alfred Hitchcock
I Love Lucy
Leave it to Beaver
Simon & Simon
The Rockford Files
Programming also starts again at 11:00 a.m.

I guess a few compliants from the viewers and 51 and 49 (just saw the Partridges and The Monkees there) jumping on classic TV caused the knee-jerk. I also believe that America One was trying to prop up their bad programming. If they want to do that, use the early morning for the ancient Westerns and the overnights for the "network programming".

The Tube, Channel 55 and KNWS Channel 51 can't touch the "back in the day" Independent Channels 26 KRIV and KHTV 39. Channel 26 and 39 back in the 70s and 80s were seen on Cable Systems throughout Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana. They had excellent programming, including, reruns from sitcoms, movies and local sports and also a short local news break at the top of each hour.

As for today, Channel 51 seems very low-budget and Channel 55 is nothing but infomercials for the most part.
