What if this group were to buy WLW/Kiss?

I remember a lot of talk a few years ago about Castellini & company with the Reds purchasing a radio station in the market, despite no real stations being for sale..now there is one/two up for grabs, including the current flagship station. Do the Reds have the capital to purchase stations that should be very profitable?

Possible. If I remember correctly isn't Bobby Lawrence involved in some way with the Reds and instrumental in the deal the Cardinals had with their broadcast operations? http://www.main-st.net/tattlers/051202.pdf

Not that it's the same Bobby Lawrence formerly of Taft Broadcasting, Jacor and now Local, LLC. has anyhing to do with it. Also Local and Tribune has a common thread in the Management Company for both is run by..(harps and heavenly choir) .. Randy Michaels.

There's always the possbility he could end up running it with out direct ownership. This is gonna be a wild ride, regardless.

I'm glad to see some discussion on this topic. I realize that Bonneville very badly wants the flagship news-talker in the region, but the Reds also want it. Add in the fact that Clear Channel took a huge bite in their deal with the Reds this year, and that some of Clear Channel's senior sales staff now work for the Reds. Capital would not be an issue for Castellini and Co.

With a powerful AM and an FM for listeners who don't go to the other side of the dial, the Reds would have a tidy little package to take care of their radio needs. Sponsors would get sweetheart deals and the front office would no longer have to haggle about rates and contracts to get games covered. It could create demand for the backing of the Reds to positive effect. The possibilities are actually many and varied if you think about it.

That said, I think the Church will probably go to great lengths to secure WLW.

Yes but would the Church want both WLW & Kiss? And where would that pub Bonneville in terms of market share of advertising with WLW, Kiss, B105, Q102, The Sound, and The Wolf? Also, with WLW owned by the Reds, I wonder if Daughtery & Willie would lighten up on the criticisms of Reds players such as Adam Dunn & Ken Griffey Jr?

Another interesting thought is C Trent works for Clear Channel and is on the 700 WLW spring training bus/RV. If this deal gets done before he gets back will he have to remove the 700 WLW logos on the RV? (Stupid question I know)

It's worth considering that no matter what stations are sold and whom the buyer is, there is the distinct possibility that they won't be kept together. Bonneville or the Reds could sell of 107.1 if it doesn't meet their needs... Cumulus probably wouldn't mind having that stick.

I still go for the WLW/WEBN combo instead of the WLW/Kiss combo but I would add another full power signal to simulcast WLW. The Big One has a hell of a signal but its greatest weakness is AM radio. Between the part 15 monsters and a segment of the population under 40 who don't use AM, it would just make sense in the long run. So WLW/WEBN/and an FM to be named later as "WLW-FM"

Since they were mentioned, a Bobby Lawrence/Randy Michaels story. A 80/90 drop-in signed on the air about a dozen years ago in Santa Claus, Indiana. (Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, Indiana). It was a 3kw no-thrills station running ABC's "Starstation format. About a year later it was sold and "Broadcast" magazine announced the details. The seller of WAXL was a company run by a Robert Lawrence and Benjamin Hummel and it was noted the two were principles of the then Jacor. For those who don't know, Benjamin Hummel is the real name of (harps and heavenly choir) Randy Michaels. So if Bobby Lawrence is involved in the deal then Randy will somehow be along for the ride.

Keep in Mind the DOJ did not make the spinoffs À la carte. The only choices CC has are the ones the DOJ gave them. WLW & KISS or Fox and the station formerly know as MIX. No other combination will be allowed under the guidelines.

CC will follow this to a T and not make waves and it will be done fast. Closing is set for the end of March.

Forget the WLW/WEBN spinoff, it ain't gonna happen.

Wylly...Cumulus is not allowed to have any of it. Remember that the reason they have to divest is that CUmulus and CC have too much combined.
