What if you wrote these songs today?

"Leader of the Pack" would be about the Ayatollah Kameni

"Leavin on a jet plane and I gotta pay to pee"
" Rockin robin" would be "rockin home invasion"

When Steve Miller first came out with "Take the Money and Run," it had the grammatically incorrect line, "You know he knows just exactly what the facts is!" Well, if he were to release that today, he could pass that line off as "You know he knows just exactly what the fax is!" ;D

AARP top hits........
Herman Hermits - Mrs Brown you've got a lovely walker
BeeGees - How do mend a broken hip.
Bobby Darin - Splish Splash I was Having a Flash
Beatles - I'll get by with a little help from my depends
Roberta Flack - First time I ever forgot your face
Johnny Nash - I Can't see clearly now
Paul Simon - 50 way to lose your liver
Commodores - once, twice, three times the bathroom.
Marvin Gaye - heard It thru the grapenuts
Leo Sayer - You made me feel like napping
Temptations - Papa's got a kidney stone
Dawn - knock three times om the ceiling if you hear me
Lesly Gore - Its my procedure and I'll cry If I want to.
Willle Nelson - On the commode again
You obviously meant that as a takeoff on "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," but I believe it also works as a takeoff on James Brown's "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag." ;D

"The Chokin' Kind" --theme song for the Chicago Cubs
"Easy Come, Easy Go"--GM, Citibank, Lehman, AIG, etc.

How is "the chokin kind" an update? Remember CUBS v. Padres in I think 1988? Up two games, need three----"-oops they did it again"-----another song about the Cubbies.

Ariel by Dean Friedman...channel 2 no longer signs off the air, so no making love with bombs bursting in air

Bobby's Girl...that would have picketers in front of your station, although the hip hop version would be "Bobby's B***ch"

Likewise, Billy Joel might still "sleep with the television on," but you won't hear "the Star-Spangled Banner" anymore like you hear at the beginning of that one.

Dire Straits, "Money for Nothing." Mark Knopfler had to drop all the "******" references from subsequent recordings and performances of the song, and change the offending word to "queenie." Although this example is due more to political correctness than to changes in technology, which I believe is the theme of this particular thread.

It's their permanent theme song forever along with "It's Impossible"
If they ever did win the update would be "It's A Miracle"

New Edition, "Mr. Telephone Man." The idea behind this one was stupid, to begin with! Guy calls the telephone repair guy because he hears a "click" every time he tries to call his girlfriend. ::) Of course, that's because she hangs up on him since she does not want to talk to him! ::) But he's living in denial, and won't bring himself to accept that! I don't think you'll hear a "click" when someone on a cell phone disconnects with you! ;D

The call can drop and you think that they hung up. Then you go to bed and put a pillow over your head and cry "Tears on my Pillow"

"I'm Gonna Get Married". Nah, just going to live with her. (that's not a change in technology....that's a change in theology)

1974 alone had the following titles.......that repersent a change in theology, all #1's by the way on the soul charts for 1974
Hollywood swingin' - kool and the gang
Feel like makin' love - roberta flack
My thang- james brown
sideshow- blue magic
rock your baby - gwen mcrae
can't get enough of your love baby - barry
Do It (Till your satisfied) - Bt express
you got the love - rufus
let your hair down -temptations
until you come back to me - aretha
you have'nt done nothing -stevie wonder

Re: change in theology

See your point on some, but not all. Of course titles and themes that included "rock and roll" as a euphemism for sex going back to the 50s if not before, especially by R&B artists. The "Sixty Minute Man" wasn't talking about running a marathon. "Work with me Annie" was pretty blatant for it's day, and even Lou Christie's "Rhapsody in the Rain" had two versions, one saying "Making Love", the "clean version" saying "Making Out".

Hollywood swingin' - kool and the gang (I just take that as dancing, not wife swapping!)

Feel like makin' love - roberta flack (does that have to only apply to un-legally-married couples?)

My thang- james brown..yeah, kinda blatant

sideshow- blue magic That puzzles me. The people in the song are sad because they either couldn't find someone or broke up with someone. Unless the objection is that leaving someone became acceptable, well you can be living in a house and have legal paperwork and still be abandoned. What's the difference between "Sideshow" and "What Becomes of the BrokenHearted" 8 years before?

rock your baby - gwen mcrae (actually George, Gwen did Rockin' Chair), yeah but not any more blatant than the 50s.

can't get enough of your love baby - barry White-. Sounds like a song of love and devotion to me. Don't see a problem with that. I'd sing that at a wedding if I could sing.

Do It (Till your satisfied) - Bt express. OK, specially the long version

let your hair down -temptations One Tempts song I'm not familiar with

until you come back to me - aretha. Sorry but I can't find anything objectionable about that song. She wants her one and only to come back.

You Haven't Done Nothing--Stevie Wonder. Isn't that a protest song?

You Got the Love-Rufus. Not familiar with it

If I wanted to find songs about a change in morals, especially adultery, I'd have to include "Me and Mrs. Jones" and "Slip Away". Then there's "Lorelei (Let's Live Together) with no reference to going to the courthouse to get legal paperwork.

Strictly a play on words (which I do alot) ....for all titles. Based on firepoints post, not your original. I was using your original quote for my example that it was not 100% change of technology. OK maybe 85%, I was looking for that 15%, to get more titles In. So that's all, there was to that.

Explicit ? How about 'Sexual Healing'?

Or euphamystic------ "Daniel" by Elton John about his "brother"
Today it would be :

"Herpes Healing"
"Daniel" (my husband)
