With 2 A Days about to wrap up its season on MTV and a second season on the way, what is everyone's take on the show? Living in the Birmingham TV market which Hoover High and 2 a Days is filmed, I will chime in my take. Overall, it's ok, but it is so overrated like every other show on MTV.
First off, Hoover High is not the powerhouse football team that fans of the show think they are in my opinion. They don't have a perfect defense. For example, last night Hoover played one of their metro rivals Vestavia Hills at Vestavia Hills. Looking at the local high school football report, Vestavia was ahead until the final 5 minutes of the 4th quarter at 24-21. Then, Hoover throws a game winning touchdown pass to win 28-24. It seems that Hoover gets behind in half their games.
Second, It is weird to see Coach Probst cussing on 2 a Days and then turn over to the local high school football report and say something like "yeah, our team could have done better." Since Sideline 2006 on WBRC is a G rated show and live, they wouldn't have much time to edit out Probst's cussing.
Third, yes Hoover is really as preppy and rich as you see it on Two A Days. Southern Jefferson County (Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook and Inverness) and Shelby County have the higest income residents of anyone in the state. This is where the Galleria is located with all the rich people shops.
Fourth, and my biggest complaint, most of the show is not focused on what goes on the gridiron, but off it. These teens, their questionalbe behavior with all these sexual innuendo like scenes. I cannot believe the Hoover school board allowed MTV to film not only on the football field but in their classrooms and these kids homes and lives. If I were a student at Hoover, I'd be so uncomfortable that I'd ask to be transfered.
Many people in towns across Alabama are buzzing about the program and not all of it is positive. Many are appaled about these kids "loose" behavior with their significant other off the field and the coach's cussing.
Fifth, the only reason I have any interest in the school is many of the schools that Hover played on 2 A Days, are the same schools that my high school played. I Graduated from Bob Jones High in the Huntsville area. In fact, my high school alma mater played Hoover last year in the state championship playoffs (which of course Hoover won 48-27).
That is my take from someone in Hoover's tv market.
