what is(or was)your favorite top of the hour station i.d.??

Having lived all over the US, I'll limit my response to Greater Los Angeles:

1) da da da da da da da da....K R L A...Los Angeles (of course, technically not a legal TOH ID...the legal ID (Pasadena) was usually buried within the news)

2) KRTH.....Los Angeles!

3) K F I...Los Angeles...KFI 640

currently XMs 60s channel has the most lively, high energy,,discriptive Top of the hour jingle ever heard,,,,, no one does it like this anymore,,,They really went all out on this one !!!!

OK OK......The Power 106 one was good. In fact, I couldn't stand that genre of music in those days, (or now) but I was still somewhat intrigued by that line. ("Wow, they have 72,000 watts? That seems like a lot...!" I remember thinking. Especially because my college radio station had, uh, 10 watts.)

I'd add 91X. Said in Spanish: X T R A Baja California, Mexico. That always sounded so exotic to me.

Arrow 93 did a nice job of using Pink Floyd's "On the Run" in their top of the hours, and definitely "burying" the KCBS id part. I also liked their corny arrow sound effect.

And....the 1979 KHJ IDs with Paul Frees: "The Rhythm of Southern California" (singers: "93/KHJ") (Paul Frees: "Los Angeles.")

---Michael Hagerty

Very Orson Welles-ian. Great ID.

Pirate Radio was intense.
The KBIG "Its 10'O'Clock in West..." is classic....
and don't forget the old standard......
Bruce Vidal or Big Ron belting out....."K-I-I-S AM & FM ....Los Angeles"

Agreed about the paul Frees KHJ ID's, great stuff! How about the Ten-Q ID's in the mid 70's? Awesome sounder that was best when followed by the Real Don Steele, Rich Brother Robin or MG Kelly.

I wasn't around for many of the old jingles (and it's a bit odd to think of once great stations like KMET and KIQQ as now being on bad AMs in Banning and Barstow), but KFI, while still good, was best in the early '00s.

Actually the girl that did the XETRA T.J. one is spanish was cool and the really big voiced dude that did XEPRS Rosarito one during it's English music days was the best.

Although there is no English version, the XEW 900 AM IDs in the 60's always sent a shiver up my spine: "X-E-W, La Voz de la América Latina desde México" which translated "XEW, the Voice of Latin America from Mexico" seemed pretty real considering there was a 250,000 watt transmitter behind that statement as well as 2 x 10 kw SW transmitters.

XEW was the station that started the Televisa empire in Mexico and Latin America, too.

Worthy of mention:

The "classic" KRLA jingle with the legal mention "K-R-L-A, Pasadena", the four note horn fanfare, and the chorus shouting "GO!!!"

KNX-FM in the 70s, where a jingle would go:

Take each day as it comes,
Don't rush it by,
Don't you hurry it on by,
Make the most out of everyday,
To me along the way
(second voice)
Tune in the sound of...
Stereo 93, where the music is,
KNX-FM.

Then a laid back voice would say:
Stereo 93, KNX-FM, Los Angeles, Where the music is.

Finally, a true L.A. institution: (Chorus) KMPC, Los Angeles (horn note)

KOLA: what is(or was)your favorite top of the hour station i.d.??

Just noticed today that KOLA 99.9 has some nifty top of the hour station ID jingles, which sould like they are products of yesteryear. For many years KOLA was not a jingle laden station, so add them to this thread's list too.

And, KEZY 1190 had some good TOTH jingles back in the 70's.

The old Ten-Q TOH (complete with shotgun blasts!) was definitely awesome! Another blast from the past; KKDJ(pre-KIIS-FM) with Mason Proffit's "Voice Of Change".

I miss Mark Denis. He was always so nice to me at KFI/KOST.

Ok, on my favorite jingle, I have to be biased and say the Top of the hour ID we used back in the late 80's early 90's and also the Love Songs on the KOST ID were my favorites. Ahhh, those were some fun times!

KFI in the 90s...with the late Marc Denis reading a seemingly endless rotation of very funny liners, including the ID over a rhthym track that became the news open. Also KMPC leading into their news opens in the late 60s and early-to-mid 70s.

found this link..old school power 106.even the great 72,000 watts of music power!then to top it off joe nasty!i bet boomer would like this one!
