What is the deal with the radio one 97.5/102.5/107.5 shake up

Several media sources reported that smooth jazz will no be available in Atlanta but 107.5 WJZZ is still here. Wednesday night 1/21 at 7pm was the reported time that WJZZ was done. It is now Friday afternoon and no change yet.

Was this a radio one hoax? A station was scheduled to change format and it did not happen. What's up?

It's definitely not a hoax. WJZZ fired its staff, and Radio One has sent an email to all clients about the WJZZ change.

I spoke with Radio One this morning. I'm not sure of the real reason for the delay, but R1 told me there are some engineering issues being worked out. I don't really understand this because there have been numerous times when during a weather emergency, several stations simulcast a news/talk station in the same cluster or simulcast a TV station by just patching it in. But that was Radio One's story. They said the simulcast will start "within days."

Someone else at Radio One said she heard they didn't apply to the FCC for permission to simulcast on time, so they're waiting for approval.

I don't know what's true, but I think one thing is for sure. They don't know what they're doing.

I wonder why they want to put PRAISE 97.5 on 102.5? They website for PRAISE 102.5 was registered as I stated in another post. Does this big shakeup and simulcast of 107.5/97.5 make sense? Since 97.5 will be the station without a format are they going to put it up for sale or put Urban talk over there? It'll be great if the new Urban AC format on 107.5 turns out like what Radio One just did in Philly www.1079wrnb.com
