1) Shreveport L.A. ( This Market is Loaded with Great Urban stations.KMJJ,KBTT and KDKS just to name a few, and alot of Gospel stations on the AM Dial.)
2) Atlanta ( WVEE is Great and The ATL is only of the few market that Radio One stations are very good )
3) Washington D.C. ( WHUR,WPGC and WKYS are Great stations )
4) New York ( It suck that no more Smooth Jazz here, But Hot 97,Power 105,WBLS and 98.7 Kiss-FM are Great Stations )
5) Baltimore ( Great Urban A/C station WWIN and I love WERQ, and alot of D.C. Urban stations, Bleeding over into this market, Another place where Radio One stations does well, Baltimore,ATL and D.C. Thats It. ).
Well, Thats my top Urban Market picks .

My favorite Urban Radio Market is Dallas. In my opinion, out of the 4 urban formatted stations in Dallas, two of them are one the best in the nation.

1.) K104 sounds very good when it comes to a nice blend of Hip-Hop and R&B (even though now they considered themselves Hip-Hop) and new music which is why they are one of the best Mainstream Urban stations in the nation.

2.) 105.7 KRNB is a really good Urban AC station because they play almost exclusively new R&B music that is not explicit or dirty as you would find on urban stations catering to the young crowd.

Those two stations are sister stations and they are both owned by an independent company "Service Broadcasting".

Now 97.9 The Beat is good, but besides the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, the station can't really do as well as K104 have been for years despite nearly beating them in ratings a few times.

I agree with Dallas. I would add that for Urban Oldies KKDA-AM AM 730 is also amazing.

I agree that the best market for urban radio in the East is Washington D.C. and it seems like it always has been.

I also agree with Shreveport, lots of really good stations - Urban AC, Gospel and Hip Hop R and B.

I would add Memphis, a full roster of Urban formatted stations there, the standouts are Urban Oldies/Blues/Gospel WDIA of course and equally legendary WLOK which plays a lot more traditional Gospel than most Gospel stations. 95.7 was the pioneer in FM Gospel stations among major market stations.

I would also add Birmingham. The FM Urbans - 95.7, 98.7 and 107.7 don't really stand out that much, however there is alot of diversity on the AM dial - Gospel at 610, a great Urban Oldies station WATV at 900 and Blues/Southern Soul at 1400.

In the Midwest, I would submit Detroit as my favorite. I have always liked WJLB for mainstream Urban/Hip Hop, 92.3 has some good weekend Oldies shows, Radio One's 102.7 and 105.9 are very listenable, WGPR 107.9 has long played deep Soul Oldies and there are also Gospel AMs 1200 and 1340.

AUGUSTA,GA
Love this market, especially back in the day when Radio One ran FOXIE 103.1/100.9. 3 Hip-Hop choices..I love it! Stations in the country seem to be the best sometimes.

103 JAMZ 'THE FOX' (formely FOXIE 103.1 JAMZ)
POWER 107
97.9 THE WIZ

MACON,GA
Mac Town is another one of my choices. The station there tend to have a wide variety of jamz and new music, plus the mixshow DJs keep it crunk!

97.9 WIBB
BLAZIN 92.3
POWER 107.1 (formely FOXIE 107)

I always liked the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area. You got Power 96 (Excellent station), 99Jamz, Hot 105 (Top rated Urban AC), and 1035 The Beat.

ZTwins (ZTWINS.COM) 1620am from Seattle, Wa. They carry "The Touch" from ABC Radio Networks in Dallas, Texas. They play THE BEST Urban AC music

WQJZ.COM, WCINAM.COM They carry "Smooth Jazz Station" from Jones Radio Networks in Denver, Colorado.
Laurie Cobb is on weekdays 10am-3pm Eastern Time, and Loni Taylor is on weeknights 7pm-10pm Eastern Time
Listen anytime you want and YOUR convience. (Besides the Eric Clapton, Steeley Dan, and Santana music) Other than that, they play THE BEST Smooth Jazz/and some Urban AC
