Before WCBS-AM 880 Was An All-News Radio Station, They Were A "Middle Of The Road" Music Station. But There's One Question That Hasn't Been Asked Yet... What "Middle Of The Road" Songs Did The Station Play By Songs & Artists Before The Switch To All-News On August 28, 1967?

WCBS 880 was more of a full service station before the flip to all news.
  • Pat Summerall's morning show played a few pop songs (soft rock, adult contemp artists such as Petula Clark), along with news at :28 and :58, plus Harvey Hauptman on sports, Gordon Barnes with weather, and traffic with "Orville" and "Wilbur" in the twin Help-o-Copters.
  • Arthur Godfrey's network show ran 10-11am
  • There were local talk shows (hosted by Ed Joyce, Bill Randall, Jon Shafer and others) til 4. CBS Dimension features on the half hour. And the radio version of Art Linkletter's House Party aired somewhere in middays.
  • "Up to the Minute" was the branding for a 4-6pm local news block anchored by Ken Banghart.
  • Network news, commentary and sports features ran 6-7:30pm
  • A sports show (with some call ins) hosted initially by Pat Summerall and later, Harvey Hauptman, ran 7:30-8pm
  • Jim Gearhart did a pop music show 8-11pm (he played a lot of Herb Alpert, Pet Clark and other soft hits).
  • A variety of long-form news/public affairs shows (one I particularly remember, "WCBS Radio Looks at Television:), 11:10-11:30pm
  • Music Till Dawn (beautiful music and light classical/instrumentals) all night.
