"Psycho" by Puddle Of Mudd

I hate that song. And it's a power...and it tests.

my god, I live in South Dakota and one of the two local CHR's I can get plays Psycho and has Fake It by Seether in power rotation.

That same CHR is doing some sort of "old school" weekend and they just played Flashlight by Parliament followed by Wheel in the Sky by Journey and Me so Horny by 2 Live Crew.

anything with George Clinton [who was in Parliament] in it makes me gag :-[ and so does any blatant classic rock stuff from the 70s and 80s being played on a CHR [AC/DC, Kansas, Van Halen, Pink Floyd, Def Leppard, Led Zeppelin, etc.]. Dont get me wrong I like classic rock but not on a friggin' CHR, flashback weekend or not

...And everybody thought friggin' Mix 107.7 was stuck in 1985!!!!! ;D

At least the CHR here only does those really strange "old school" weekends [they kicked the 2pm hour on Saturday with "I Can't Explain" by THE WHO followed by "#1" by NELLY] a few times a year. THE WHO into NELLY?!! At least that station is back to its regular CHR format now... :)

Song's that should retire and NEVER be heard from again.

Anything from the "Dirty Dancing" Soundtrack, George Michael's "Faith" CD, or Michael Jackson's "Bad" CD. Basically the entire year of 1988. The year 1988 made me think maybe Air Supply wasn't that bad.

Also add into the mix "The Living Years" by Mike & the Mechanics, and "Second Chance" by 38 Special. Very lame songs from 2 GREAT Bands!!!

anything by john mayer, Sarah mclachlan, Sheryl crow (songs from the 2000's) and jack johnson

Actually, the "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack, "Faith", and "Bad" were all released in 1987. The singles from "Bad" that were released in 1988 are:
Man in the Mirror
Dirty Diana
Another Part of Me
Smooth Criminal
From "Faith", the singles released in '88:
Father Figure
One More Try
Monkey
Kissing A Fool
"The Living Years" and "Second Chance" are both OK songs, but they are both on the slow side...If I were to put a .38 Special song on here, it would probably be the overplayed "Hold On Loosely"..."All I Need Is A Miracle" would be my choice for Mike and the Mechanics. UNDERPLAYED mention goes to "Take It In" from 1986.
Also...how can you hate Al B. Sure's "Nite and Day" or Midnight Oil's "Beds Are Burning"?

You've hit the nail on the head with all those songs you listed by George Michael and Michael Jackson... instant channel switch.

Not every song from 1988 was bad... but over 50% of the Top 100 could retire from radio airplay and I wouldn't shed a tear.

I did enjoy listening to Al B. Sure. He actually had a Football Scholarship award to him by a Big Ten School and decided to go the Music Route instead. Wasn't Midnight Oil from 1987???

If you go and look at the Top 100 from 1988... you'll see why it wasn't the Best Year for Music.

All great posts, but I universally disagree with some... Especially when one considers “the difficult 70s”—central to the most loyal radio audience out here today. Theses folks have HUGE amounts of money, [avg] 900k homes, and a definite preposition to purchase more. At 49, I am a minority, but “killer" in my accomplisments, and a member of "the spending Americans" with HUGE resources and an unquestioned loyalty to RADIO. I'm in great shape and have "rounded the curve", yet corporate radio no longer considers me relevant - HA-HA!!! Shame on them!

WHY, should “corporate radio” cast such aside? Its STUPID! ...In ALL my years as an excellent Marketer, I have never seen such a disconnect. The youthful demo is VITAL—but they have been claimed—for now by the iPod - but the loyal demo is in place—underserved— recently. This is the first time since "Fibber Mcge 'n Mollie" that radio HAS-NOT been in control of the youth demo... They WILL NOT win it back... Ther other propositions have caused them to lose an entire demo.

What is left for radio? ...GET BACK TO BASICS!!!

Midnight Oil was from 1988..."Beds Are Burning" went to #22...Single debuted 5/21/1988.

"You Can Call Me Al" by Paul Simon. Dumbest damn song ever written by someone who should know better.

and yes, I heard us play it last Friday on ClassX. Proof that I only control MY show. lol

btw, blatant self-promotion....I play deep album cuts during my weekday show. Email me your requests and I'll see what I can do.

That is only true if you never saw the Chevy Chase/Paul Simon take on SNL years ago. ;-)

1988 also had the following "wonderful" songs:
"Kokomo" by The Beach Boys...Should NEVER be heard from again.
"Don't Worry Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin...Please go away...PLEASE!!! THAT would make me "happy"!!!
;D
Dis-Honorable mention to "Love Bites" by Def Leppard. Can't any radio station play "Animal" instead???
Other crappy #1s of 1988...
"The Flame" by Cheap Trick. Why did these morons ever exist?
"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison. Do PDs get a bonus every time this song is played? I hear it at least once a day on any number of stations. It's not like Poison didn't have any other Top 40 hits(They had NINE others, FOUR OTHERS which were Top 10 hits..."Unskinny Bop" from 1990 went to #3, but do you ever hear THAT one on the radio?!?).
BOTH of Whitney Houston's #1s from '88, "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" and "So Emotional". Used to love Whitney's music...Now I can't stand it.
"Red Red Wine" by UB40. I once loved this song, and even have a vinyl copy of it here at the house. However, repetition on the radio killed this tune for me.
These are just the #1s for 1988...Maybe this WAS a bad year for music.

I agree with your views alans613... for a moment I thought I was reading something I had typed up to another Jock about how bad 1988 was. Glad to see that you've come around to my way of thinking. :D There were a few good songs from 1988... but by far, there are more TERRIBLE songs from 1988 that have been WAY overplayed!!!

How about these lovely's that we should never hear from them again... PLEASE!!!

Boy meets Girl, Will to Power, Rick Astley, Tell it to my heart by Taylor Dayne... and why is it when they have a 70's special on TV they invite her to sing a 70's song??? Circle in the sand by Belinda Carlisle.

1988...Bad year for music!!!

When WLW plays that drum machine crap on top of the traffic and weather reports, I hit the button. The 'music' is so loud I can barely understand what the head is saying.
