What station/format of Bakersfield radio past would you like to see back?

I wasn't saying that these shows shouldn't be on in Bakersfield ,I was just pointing out the nearest stations there on,and I didn't realize Play103.9 had a Blow torch of a signal.

Adam Carolla is on KFRR 104.1 and Mark and Bryan is on KIOO 99.7,even though these stations are from Tulare County ,I know there signal can be recieved in Kern County.

So can KMJ. Guess it's stupid for KNZR to air Rush Limbaugh and Coast to Coast. KERN should replace Sean Hannity and fire Inga Barks, cause she's on in Fresno.

103.9 bleeds over 104.1 bad, seems like it got worse.

Just a sore subject for me, I got 104.1 when I moved here. Then one day just bleed over from 103.9. 99.7 never came in here for me.

Back in the Day...Magic 98 or KKXX?

I worked at KMGN-Shafter (Magic 98) as the Program Director under our KERN parents and Brandon-Dorsey owners. Magic 98 was indeed a renegade album rock program, and a loss-leader for the company, since I doubt we ever made any profit! Progressive and serious album rock music was our bread and butter, and we used a very simple rotation system that afforded the presenters an unprecedented freedom to raid the album library for unusually obscure but worthy rock cuts. Naturally this could never work in a business that would normally demand tight scheduling and tighter formatting. At one point we lost a large part of the staff to a management diktat for a station refresh. I was very sorry to see this, and ultimately the station went down to issues related to its weak signal, poor profit numbers and odd location. In essence I had no idea how to manage its wider success given the wild-ass nature of its breakaway format. But I am proud of the staff and what we managed to do under Brandon-Dorsey. We brought a remarkably authentic rock radio program to the southern central valley and took on the well-resourced competition without any fear. Stories of drunk-fueled craziness notwithstanding, most of our air staff were committed to THE MUSIC and to their audience, and I believe that sincerity (naive as it was) made the Kick-Ass Magic 98 era a special one. R/Dave L. Erstwhile radio guy.
