What stations do you know that used to carry The Mike Douglas Show?

Mike Douglas was on...

KIMA 29 Yakima WA
KEPR 19 Pasco WA
KLEW 3 Lewiston ID (all three were known as Cascade TV at the time and simulcasted. I think KIMA was the flagship.)

-crainbebo

In Utica: WKTV mostly 90 minutes. Later WUTR 60 minutes.

Do you know any stations that used to carry the late Mike Douglas (from 1961-1982)?

I know those stations:

NEW YORK, NY: WCBS (CBS)
LOS ANGELES, CA: KNBC (NBC) early years
CHICAGO, IL: WMAQ (NBC)
PHILADELPHIA, PA: KYW* (then NBC, now CBS O&O and *It's former owners Group W used to produce the show)
SAN FRANCISCO, CA: KPIX* (CBS)
BOSTON, MA: WBZ* (then NBC, now CBS O&O)
ATLANTA, GA: WAGA (then CBS, now FOX O&O)
WASHINGTON, DC: WRC (NBC) I think
CLEVELAND, OH: KYW** (**before moving to Philly in '65), now WKYC (NBC)
PITTSBURGH, PA: KDKA* (CBS)
CHARLOTTE, NC: WBTV (CBS)
BALTIMORE, MD: WJZ* (then ABC, now CBS O&O)
GREENVILLE/SPARTANBURG, SC: WLOS (ABC), then WFBC/WYFF (NBC), and WSPA (CBS) I think.
CHARLESTON, SC: WCSC (CBS)

Do you know any other markets that used to air that show?

Let me add a few:
- In New York, the first station to air Douglas' show was WOR-TV, from 1965 to 1968; then it moved to WCBS. His 1980-82 Syndicast show was aired first on WCBS, then WPIX. (His Group W replacement, John Davidson, was still on WCBS at first, then in 1981 relocated to WOR.)
- I seem to recall KABC-TV in Los Angeles airing Douglas in the mid-'60's, before KNBC snagged him in '68. As otherwise noted, KNXT later ran the show.
- In Chicago, other stations that aired Douglas included WGN-TV (in the late 1960's) and WSNS-TV (in the late '70's).
- Philadelphia's Channel 3 first aired Douglas in 1963 - when it was still NBC-owned WRCV-TV.

Notice there was only one NBC O&O that did not air Douglas, either his Group W or Syndicast shows: WNBC-TV in New York.

In Philly, after John Davidson took over his Group W reins in 1980, Mike's show from Syndicast aired
on WPHL-TV 17 at 12:30 pm. WTVE's airing of Mike Douglas and John Davidson were usually two
weeks behind KYW for some reason, I don't know exactly what.

Mainly because of contractual reasons, as Reading is part of the Philly TV market and KYW and WPHL had the show.

There was a similar situation in Boston, where the late WXPO-TV in Worcester carried Mike Douglas two weeks after it aired on WBZ in Boston. (I think another Worcester station, WSMW, carried Mike in the 1970s under the same stiplulations, but I'm not sure.)

(cue the ID)
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, KOOL-TV channel 10 Phoenix, on tape."

Weekdays 2:30-4 PM MT.

Also fed to by microwave, and aired at the same time, by KOLD-TV 13 Tucson.

PROVIDENCE, RI: WPRI/12 (then CBS, later ABC, now CBS)
PORTLAND, ME: WCSH/6 (NBC), WMTW/8 (ABC)
MANCHESTER/BOSTON: WXPO/50 (Ind.) now deleted
HARTFORD: WFSB/3 (CBS)
WORCESTER/BOSTON: WSMW/27 (Ind.) now WUNI (UNI)

Prior to Post-Newsweek's purchase of Channel 3 WFSB in Hartford in 1974, "The Mike Douglas Show" was carried on Channel 8 WTNH in New Haven, CT, and also Channel 22 WWLP in Springfield, MA.

^ I wish one of my local TV stations announced like that.....(Psalms 33:12)

Miami, WCKT 7, now WSVN, carried Mike.

cd (still waiting for an oldies station to play his top 5 hit "The Men in My Little Girl's Life".....I know, long wait.)

In Rochester, NY, WOKR (now WHAM-TV), the ABC affiliate, from the beginning to the end.

In Buffalo, WGR-TV (now WGRZ), the NBC affiliate.

In both cases the show aired in the afternoon--in Rochester it was lead-in for Mickey Mouse Club reruns and later the early news, in Buffalo it was news lead-in.

In Cleveland:
1961-65 KYW (Carried live, as it originated from KYW) 12:30-2 or 1-2:30..Was launched specifically to displace WEWS-TV 5' s One Oclock Club which it finally did by Summer 1964..

1965-76 WKYC-TV..eventually moved to 9-10:25 or 9-10..

1976-80 WEWS, WJW and WUAB all had turns at carrying Douglas

1980-82 (Syndicast) No Cleveland station, but WAKR-23 Akron carried Mike Douglas..

WXPO-TV (Channel 50) was licensed to Manchester, NH but had studios in Lowell, MA. For the 6 months that it existed (1969-70), WXPO carried The Mike Douglas Show on a two week delay, to "protect" WBZ-TV (Channel 4) in Boston, owned by Group W/Westinghouse. WSMW-TV (Channel 27) in Worcester only carried the Syndicast version from the early 1980's with no delay from WBZ-TV (Channel 4 carried both Mike and The John Davidson Show, ironic yes.... but true.). In those days, Channel 27 was never a major player in the market due to being a Worcester based Independent with a less than perfect signal. Plus, 50% of their broadcast day was subscription television (Preview/ONTV).

I believe when WCLQ/61 signed on in March 1981, they carried the show at 10:30am. Not sure how long that lasted.

The Mike Douglas Show was on everyday when we got home from school. Them what wanted to watch Batman afterward sat quietly at the dining room table and did our homework. :D

Thought I remembered Merv on WHIO maybe later. I think Dayton had the 60 minute version, my grandmother watched Merv on WXIX Cincy at 9 and it was the 90 min version

I've heard the reason that Mike Douglas switched from live to videotape was the 7-second delay inncodent when Zsa Zsa Gabor called Morey Amsterdam a SOB. It's true. It was in 1965.

Firebird:
You are correct that WCLQ carried The Syndicast Douglas, at least in March 1981..I just did hit-miss searching in the Plain Dealer Archives..Dont know how long Douglas lasted on Channel 61..

In that 1980-82 period, WKYC aired Douglas' Group W replacement Davidson . . .
