What Talent-Shows do you miss in Seattle? What talnet should come to Seattle?

Just want to get a reaction from people regarding what shows/ talent they miss in the Seattle Market and what shows would you like to hear in Seattle. Could be shows from other markets or shows you miss from ours! Have fun.

This is a no brainer. It's a crime that we can no longer enjoy Robin and Maynard on the airwaves!

Kind of a long list pops into head .... besides the folks like Kent & Alan, Bob Rivers, Yeend, Dave Ross who've been at it and are still going at it .... I'd offer the following:

Gary Lockwood (though was always a fan of his afternoon work more than his morning show). "Police Blotter" remains the last vivid example I remember of "appointment listening", and especially when I had to pull car over to side of road to stay safe from laughing...

Charlie Brown's work both in KJR and KUBE incarnations (KUBE targeted a bit more adult), Lan Roberts off the wall stuff, Phil Harper's unique ability for bringing "intelligent humor" to Top-40 format, and in their adult niches, have to mention people like Jack Morton, Bob Hardwick, Larry Nelson because they could sure engage you even if it wasn't a "bit-based" show. Jim French could do engaging interviews without trying to piss people off to hold their attention. In recent years, was always a fan of Pat Cashman based on his recollection that "show prep" is NOT something that should have gone by the wayside ... his show thrived on that and the creativity that drove it. In the "pure energy" department, Dancin' Danny Wright always put on an energetic, interesting program (KJR, KNBQ). And a long list of people who were good jocks ... because they could blend the music and the personality without one getting in the way of the other; yet still offered CONTENT that went far far beyond "that was that was and coming up".

Sure there are others...would sit and think but need to re-inflate my air mattress or my laptop is gonna fall in the river that used to be my driveway.

Great topic!

For my money, Langan and West (aka "Those Dudes") in the late '70s/early '80s did some of the most cutting edge, downright surreal radio I've ever heard. I hate to admit it but I also miss hearing Tom Leykis in PM drive. I've caught his show at night on KISW once or twice recently and his voice sounds horrible...does anybody know what's up with that?

What shows missed? - What should come?

The AM-880 KIXI hosts: Dearborn, Liddle, Wingert, Morton...

..also music programming/jocks from the ol' 70's KOL-FM...

To come? - 24/7 Old-Time Radio Shows on FM

What Radio Talent MISSES Seattle?
ONE just retired - TWO are still in limbo and a half-dozen still on-air ALREADY DO!

Robin and Maynard. Hands down, my number one pick.

Now & then I yearn for a Dr. Laura fix. Kind of used to like Rhona at Night too. There also has to be a place in Seattle radio for Scotty Burns and for Pat Cashman.

And in the "impossible" file: I miss Phil Harper, Charlie & Ty and also The Crow-West Morning Roadshow.

Some good posts here. I am surprised more people diddnt mention Tom Leykis back in PM drive and here are a few other I am surprised not to see.......

Mike Ford from the Hay Days of KBSG
Ryan and Ryan also from the Hay days of KBSG
The Vocal Minority was a short lived GREAT show
DJ No name in the Morning Slot
Andy Savage

Thoughts?

The great shows growing up were Charlie and Ty, Kent and Alan, Gary Lockwood, Langan and West. My parents listened to Larry Nelson and Bob Hardwick. All shows have retired now, even Kent and Alan who are working out their last days. All left because they lost interest or were destroyed by management.

The big battle between Charlie and Ty on KUBE, Gary Bryan on KNBQ, Andy Barber on KHIT and Kent and Alan on KPLZ was great radio when I was in high school. Four big CHR stations battling it out. Never in Seattle history were their more CHR's and it hasn't been the same since. Kent and Alan ended up winning the battle and amazingly are still around. Nice to listen to them from time to time to remember the old days, even if they are nearing retirement. it is a good escape from my I-pod and newsradio, if I want a blast of old fashioned radio. The rest of this group have long since left the market.

J Michael Kenyon. His radio career was brief, KVI and then KING-AM in the early 80's. But J Michael reading the Everett Yellow Pages for four hours would be more interesting, entertaining, and educational than Dave Ross interviewing Jesus Christ (post-Second Coming).

J Michael Kenyon - KIRO MORNING RADIO on KTZZ

I do - and that weekday morning KIRO STUDIO camera for Channel 22/10 5am-7am:

..BEFORE the radio moved to Eastlake..

If you were to switch to the Channel 7-KIRO news at the same time of the KTZZ broadcast,
you could see Hersholt and the other reporters in the background -
- coming and going from the one door to the radio studio.

Jeff King at KPLZ pre- Kent and Alan Days.... the K-PLUS days...

I loved the Jingle "Jeff King in the Morning won't you tell us, won't you tell us what time it is? Do do, do do, Jeff King in the Morning won't you tell us won't you tell us what the climate is?

Fun stuff...

Crow and West, Robin and Maynard those were the days! Great personality radio, day in and day out.

Do you remember his short-lived talk show on KTZZ-TV (now KMYQ)?

I had forgotten about that show. As I recall, I watched it a few times but found it did not compare favorably with his radio show.

I remember that in 1981 J Michael had a Saturday afternoon show on KVI, "College Football Scoreboard," which consisted of him and cohost Grayle Howlitt reading the college football scores over and over for about four hours, with the occasional telephone report from an on-site stringer, and it was GRIPPING.
