What the new GST looks like, and how it'll affect ATL radio

It won't matter. The real war is between WYAY and WSB. This is Beck's second or third stint at WGST, and Schnitt's 4th or 5th time in Atlanta. Any idea what WGKA/WAFS is putting in place of Bloomberg First Word and Wall Street Journal This Morning? No Rush equals no ratings for WGST. This is also Dave Ramsey's fifth move going from WGKA to WGST to WSB to WCFO to WGST. The Premiere shows (Rush, Hannity, Dean, Handel) stay on WSB and most of the Cumulus shows (Imus, Geraldo, Huckabee) stay on WCFO.

The station has been operating out of the last stall in men's room at The Building of Death and will continue to do for the foreseeable future.

And that's kind of my beginning point...everybody said GST was a dead station dying a long, slow, torturous death. Apparently, Scarano agreed and switched to Deportés last October. So why bring back an already-dead station with an even more irrelevant list of hosts? The plan makes little sense.

They don't know what to do with it and have too much debt to try anything else. WGST has had its lunch eaten.

If WGST had just stayed the course on 105.7 back in the mid 1990's they could have given WSB hell. Who made the decision back then that news/talk was a waste of an FM signal?

WOW!!!

Andrea Tantaros, co-host of "The Five" on Fox News will make her Atlanta debut on the Talk Radio Network from Noon-2 PM.

She is HOT. I watch The Five just to watch her :D

There is no talk radio in the metro Atlanta area. If WGST brings in even mediocre talent the people will come. Local talk radio is a thing of the past.

What world are you living in?!? Uh, WSB (the top billing station in Atlanta) is as true a news/talk station as you can get. Whether you like him or not (and I don't) Rush Limbaugh is and EXTREMELY talented person. Scott Slade is probably one of the best air talent of our time. Erick Erickson is very entertaining. Chris Chandler, Bill Caiaccio, and Sabrina Gibbons are very good folks who do an excellent job keeping people informed. THAT'S why it's so successful. They do local radio, and they do it well.

Scott Slade is talk radio? Not true. Talk radio is interaction. You could say that The Regular Guys are talk radio then. Talk radio is interation between host and caller. Rush Limbaugh talks to you but not with you. He only takes about 8 callers a show. That's not talk radio. Talk radio is a thing of the past. If a PD were to bring it back it would work bigtime. "Chris Chandler, Bill Caiaccio, and Sabrina Gibbons are very good folks who do an excellent job keeping people informed." Is that the goal now of a talk show host? To keep us informed? In the past the host brought up a topic and callers gave their opinion. Now we have 'talk radio', just without the callers.

The closest thing to true talk radio of olde in this market is probably some AM church station that still has a talk show that takes callers.

WSB mostly syndicated talk now, and I think that was the main point. Cain may originate here but he's not "here" in the same way Boortz was "here" first and syndie second.

Clark Howard has been prerecorded and packaged for years and long ago lost anything that made his show local. It's the same now on delay as it was in the afternoon. Clark is like one of those fast-food burgers that you put in a pocket and find five years later and it hasn't gone bad. The segments are totally interchangeable. You can't tell if he was live or the show was on tape for a month at a time. Maybe that doesn't bother some people the way it does me.

LOL! Clyde Lewis from 10pm-1am. His shtick will work until we get down to the 2016 elections and the more conservative listeners don't like what he has to say.

I think they should do like they in the past and replay CtoC from the previous night. It's a much better show with a strong legacy. Lewis is out there some times. More than one Alex Jones is too much.

Rush - I have a conspiracy theory that the short-term flip of 640 from Talk to ESPN Deportes was a strategic decision by Clear Channel to be able to move Limbaugh to WSB with the void left by Neil Boortz's retirement, and that flip may have very well allowed CC to rework something contractually that facilitated Clear Channel making that move. Clear Channel way more benefits from Rush on Cox's 750AM/95.5FM WSB than the perceived benefit to WGST ratings.

Dave Ramsey - His station jumping is irrelevant. IMHO he's a three hour infomerical thinly disguised as a personal finance show actually selling "trusted" financial services (Dave's ELPs ie "Endorsed Local Providers"). I would not be surprised if Ramsey pays for his billboards and other promotions as well, heck maybe even the airtime. So he's revenue for WGST.

I'm not in caller10 mode here but serious discussion mode, I'd be interested to see feedback on what I just wrote.

How in the world did I miss then humorous gem?

I know this group is infested with WYAY fanbots, but the station is WAY back there and not gaining ground. There is no war between these two stations because one is going nowhere currently.
