What was the first HD-x to show up in the Ratings?

Fall '12 Arbitrends has WUSY HD-2 in Chattanooga at a 2.3 DOWN from a 2.5 over the Summer.

How can an HD-x show up so strong (Chattanooga, I grant you) when the general consensus is it is a non-issue and is going away?

This is the first I've noticed an HD-x show up.

How often do they show up with any numbers? Does PPM recognize them?

Long story short, it's simulcast in analog on 96.1.

While there are no calls given on the website http://www.thebeatchattanooga.com/main.html it's W241AF, a 250 W translator in Rossville, GA.

So, then it was the 96.1 analog that showed up.

What I found interesting was the main channel was number #1 in the reported rating period. I figured there were curiosity coattails.

WPOZ-HD-2 shows up in the Orlando ratings at #20, but they, too, put their HD-2 over the air on another frequency.
 
The ONLY way an HDx shows in the ratings is via an analog translator. There aren't enough listeners to any actual HDx signal to put together a pick-up basketball game, let alone show in the ratings! ::)

There are three or four HD-2 formats that show up in the Birmingham ratings, but I think the first that I remember hearing about was one in Baltimore. Of course, these are all feeding translators. I think a few show up in the Atlanta ratings, too. Again, feeding translators.

Each distribution method (Arbitron calls them "transmission paths") is separately encoded. So all HD channels will have a separate encoder. HD-1, which is fully simulcast, will be added to the analog signal numbers and the combined numbers reported.

-- I believe that each translator carries the encoding of its parent FM, AM, or multicast HD "station" and is reported as such -- or carries no encoding at all. This is necessary as a large percentage of translators retransmit the parent signal including any PPM encoding. As an example, all listening for WXXX-HD2 and its translator W250XX will be credited to WXXX-HD2 even though 100% of the listening may actually be to W250XX. I can't think of an instance where translators are separately encoded and reported as such.

-- Thankfully, the "failing AM + translator" scenario doesn't involve iBiquity. That's one good reason why some of them are quite successful!

No, it's not a joke. If you're going to make broad, sweeping assumptions like "the only way an Ibiquity secondary shows in the ratings is via an analogue translator; there aren't enough listeners to any actual Ibiquity signal to put together a pick-up basketball game, let alone show in the ratings" and expect it to be taken seriously, you'd better have a verifiable source to back it up with.

It's just that simple.
 
Hey Darth, I think you've mistakenly slammed badjef for what I said. And I stand by my opinion. No citation needed. This isn't a courtroom; it isn't even Wikipedia. If you think that HDx stations break into the ratings without overwhelming analog assistance, you're absolutely entitled to your opinion -- go with it!
 
Then prove that there is an HD2 station that shows up in the ratings without an analog translator.

The Baltimore HD2 that showed up in the ratings before it got a translator was WWMX-HD2. It showed up in the ratings specifically as WWMX-HD2 Stream. Everyone was listening to it via the Internet. They promoted the Internet stream extensively on the main channel.
 
In any case it's pretty obvious that it has not been a rousing success, has it?
