My dad used to listen to WJJZ 106.1. During tropo, CHR station WBLI 106.1 would overpower WJJZ almost completely. I remember laughing when he asked me why the jazz station was playing rap music.
On TV during tropo, there would be lines on channels 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 25 on cable (all those channels were broadcast networks). When the tropo was strong enough, the co-channel Boston TV stations would overpower the local New York City TV stations on cable (Boston was the same direction as New York). That got me interested in TV DXing. My parents called the cable company, they said that there was nothing they could do. That doesn't happen anymore because the cable company now gets a direct feed or decodes the digital signal. Rather than complaining about lines on the TV during my favorite show, I hooked up an antenna and tried to identify everything I got.
