What was the most annoying song you had to play on the radio?

I was listening to 70's on 7 (sirius) when Hot Butter's Popcorn (1973)came on,so it made me wonder this question. This is for both past and present DJ's. ??? ;D

I have got to say the most annoying for me was probably the 1000th time I played "DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY" by Bobby McFerrin in the late '80's, gawd I hated that song!!!!
BTW, that "Popcorn" song was developed, distributed, promoted and produced by Bill Jerome, he lives in Atlanta now, he got a gold record for it, and resurfaced with a "modernized" version of it in 2000.

Gosh-Golly???? I can think of several in the running.... Chevy Van....Old Man In The Bleachers....Pac-Man Fever....Puppy Love....Dickie Goodman Novelty 45's....Let Her In by Travolta.......Alot of tunes, when your hot rotation came around every hour and fifty-five minutes on my HOT/CHR station.... 8)

"Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer".

That song still turns my stomach way worse than any of the disco I played in the '70s, the stuff I played at Q93 in the '80s or the country I played when I didn't like country.

I would rather play Chinese records backwards than that song.

Frank Zappa - Valley Girl. 1982 on the then-WPRG (now KLSU).

Song was OK, with FZ having enough outre' cred for a college audience. One day, though, I had enough of the lunkhead requests for the song -- always right after we had just played it. The next morning I locked myself in the studio and played it back-to-back for two hours.

Don't think the station ever played it again.

Barbara Streisand's version of Jingle Bells. That record made me want to stab a pencil into my eardrums.

Gotta agree with the John Travolta "Let Her In,"...downright Gawd awful. Though you gotta rate the bubble gum butt nuggets of the 70's as well such as Paper Lace "Night Chicago Died," First Class "Beach Baby," or Blue Swede's version of "Hooked on a Feeling." But then there's Henry Gross' "Shannon," Eric Carmen's "All By Myself," Morris Albert's "Feelings," and Gilbert O'Sullivan's infatuation with a child "Clair"...

Can't peg any one toilet treasure down...

Fun thread.

Definitely have to go with "Grandma Got Run Over," but also with another bad Holiday song we played in West Texas, "Dear Mr. Jesus."

And since most of my radio career has been in country, "Achy Breaky Heart" would top the annoying chart. "Jukebox Junkie" is a close second.

I would have said "The Streak" by Ray Stevens, had I not been in the john the majority of times I played it. My vote goes to "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks.

Disco Duck, The streak, That reindeer song, Alley Oop ( I head it on wtix-recently- yikes!!) are all qualifiers but.....anything by Lynard Skynard makes me double over in agony and yes FreeBird leads the way.

yummy yummy yummy 1910 fruitgum co, was the pits.hair by the cowsills, but here's a funny, my grandmother called one day and requested one toke over the line sweet jesus ,(Brewer & shipley) thought it was a religious song...ha

butterfly kisses--Bob Carlisle. aka..Butterfly Bob ;D God awful horrible song!!!!

how about that aweful Blue Bell Ice Cream commercial theme song. I can't stand hearing that guy trying to be country and nostalgic.

Particularly if you got the production order that had 57 tags and they had to rotate on 10 minute carts. Get to cut 8 or 9 and mess it up... Oh the humanity! I don't eat Blue Bell to this day because of that.

And on a related note... With apologies to Jeff Foxworthy, if you remember carts you might be an Olde Phart.

You just might be an old essence of flatulence too, if you remember a production room with NO computer screen, reel to reel tapes, splicing tape and grease pencils. Carts...hmm...how about turntables?

"Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" and "Butterfly Kisses" both have to be some of the worst songs that are still played. Sure "Butterfly Kisses" is cute n sweet n all, but it just has that "turn your stomach" feel to it.

And I do have to agree with Morning Air Wavezzz 110%! The song "Hey There Delilah" has got to be the ultimately WORST song on the radio since the beginning of broadcast!!! I mean HORRIBLE! I cringe when I hear it come on B-97 or WFMF. What's hilarious is the fact that the DJ's on these stations must hate the song just as much as the rest of us. They just have to sound like they LOVE it when they promote it cause... well... their told to do so. Sad. My opinion says flush it down the toilet or strap the master copy on a rocket to the planet Flahflooga!

Ya know, now it's done made its way to Diva 92.3, Magic 101.9, and Sunny 103.3. And it's terrible cause these were the stations I could go to get away from it! Argh!

lol ;D :p BTW, what a fun topic!

How about this... a remote at my first station in OK was done in the summer downtown on fresh blacktop from the inside of a rented cargo van. Navy blue, of course... they must have been out of the black ones. Anyway, we had an old Sparts board with the 2 turntables and played everything but spots from the remote. I watched records warp on that thing while they were playing.

We not return you back to your regularly scheduled topic already in progress.
