What will happen to 103.1 that is licensed to Sharpsburg?

Recently, Capitol Broadcasting in Raleigh sold a "construction permit" of 103.1 that is licensed to Sharpsburg to "Pinestone Media Corporation", anyone heard when this may go on the air?, they have till July 3rd to get this built, i'm sure they have
plans, but what format will they go with?, the area is covered with Urban AC, R & B, Black Gospel, Contemporary Christian,
Southern Gospel, Classic Rock, Christian & Secular Talk, Rock, Beach Music & Oldies, Public Radio, Adult Contemporary, Classic & Current Country, Sports, CHR, and others, the only format that may be missing is Adult Standards or something a station in
the sandhills is doing right now, called "Timeless Favorites" which is sprinkled with speciality programs, this would be good for
the Rocky Mount/Wilson radio market.

The same group (aka "Woolstone Media") owns WLHC Robbins. Look 'em up. They're on the same frequency. And just on the other side of Raleigh.

I haven't heard anything, but at one time I looked and the proposed tower location was the exact same coordinates as the WZAX tower. I know those coordinates since I work for WZAX. I have not heard anything as to whether or not First Media is leasing the space on the tower to them or whomever it is sold to. I did think it was interesting though that they were the same coordinates.

Adult standards would be a good choice, but I would like to see a true "Classic Top 40" format where everything that was on the charts from say 1967-1989 plays and not the same old 200 songs everyone else plays.

Another question in this topic, will they stick to the call letters of WNCM?, I think if they change these, use either WCEC,
there are no FM's that use these right now, or WFMA, which of course belonged to 100.7 for many years when the Warner
Family owned them, it would be fitting for a new FM to have one of these.

I agree WCEC or WFMA would be good calls for it. It was a shame that Rocky Mount lost a 100k stick (100.7) 103.1 is only a 6kw allocation if I'm not mistaken so the coverage would be the same as 99.3's.

The call letters WFMA are presently assigned to an LPFM in Farmville, Virginia, and the call letters WCEC are assigned to an AM station in Haverhill, Massachussetts. You may be able to get the call letters WFMA-FM or WCEC-FM if you have permission from the present licensee who holds the first rights on those calls.

Well, thats kinda what 99.3 use to play. It was pretty cool. Now they are a poor, poor mans version of jammin 99.9 out of Wilmington.

Actually, a full on oldies station would be sweet as well. Basically giving the middle finger to 107.9 and their disco crap.

You are correct and yes it was cool too and yes Jammin' 99.3 was based on the Wilmington station. At the time of the format change I was not allowed to reveal that, but now I don't think it's such a secret everyone knows it now.

Two things i wonder about, first, will this new station have a live person or persons on the air?(I hope so, i'm looking for a
position since being laid off from Cumulus Wilmington over a year ago) and second, with all the different formats serving this
area, the only one that isn't is either "Music Of Your Life" or to try a in-house version of "Adult Standards", i don't see that
taking place, this would be a good format, but what most radio owners want these days is to go with something the advertisers would support, 103.1 might have an uphill battle, they will never achieve the ratings the bigger signals have, but one more
station in the Rocky Mount/Wilson market won't hurt.

A true oldies station would be cool. 107.9 is an embarrassment now. I miss 100.7 back in the day. Im only 29 but I like listening to oldies every now and them.

I got a reply from Alan Button, who owns another 103.1(WLHC), he gave no hint on what the format will be, if you visit this website, www.life1031.com, it might give you an idea on what may be planned, i'm hoping they will be hiring live announcers,
the Rocky Mount area needs a different sounding FM, and that their focus will be on being local most of the time.

I tried the site and I could not connect to it. Their server either is busy or down. as of just a few seconds ago.

I don't recall WZAX ever being "elevator music", Double J is the expert on what 99.7 was, i remember their studio was in a old house on Falls Road in Rocky Mount, before First Media purchased them.
As for 103.1, they have already posted job ads for a "Office Manager", and "Radio Technican"(probably a engineer)
no word on any announcing positions, but i did talk recently with the owner of the license, and they are making
progress to signing on later this year.

I thought 99.7 signed on as a Hot AC?

^ Say 98.5 was in an old house weren't they? I have vague memories of passing that studio when I was a kid.

You are correct about WZAX was originally at "Hot AC" with studios in a house on Falls Road in Rocky Mount, then
moved to where the "Say 98.5"(WSAY, now WDWG) studios are when First Media Radio LLC made the purchase a
few years later.
