As Disco Jonn called it, "Dickey Greed" - greed itself is a major problem with today's radio situation. The most fortunate thing that will happen is - time will show them, and other corporate moguls, that their greedy practices is what will bring them down. The unfortunate part of that is - it will hit the rest of us first, if it's not hitting us already.

An odd part of my Cumulus experience is Michael Dickey was always a nice, compassionate person to me. That is, until the day I was let go. Even then, he wasn't rude, just colder. A PD was hired and there was one too many in the building. I did wonder why the PD gig wasn't offered to someone in-house... I'd been there for 4 years, and not once was I offered to shadow Jan Jeffries. But then, Jan promised to aircheck us all, and never did.

It's extremely hard not to say bad things about Cumulus. Stories do exist. But I will be praying for them, and others like them. More than ever, Radio needs all the prayers it can get.

Sorry, but I just get tired of these folks who just woke up and realized we work for companies that want to make a profit.

I spent a bunch of my career in the non-profit world, and they aren't too greedy. Except for the CEOs who make $500K apiece.

But we live in a greedy world. Even priests get paid. Everyone is greedy until they're on the outside. Then they become born again.

I have no problem with making a profit. As a (very) small business owner I look forward to it. Making a profit by taking advantage of others, cheating them, and treating them worse than the Control Room chair is what I object to. A person --a human being -- should be more than just a means to an end.

It's the fault of whoever it was several years ago to change "personnel" to "human resources". Just making us one more resource to have a negative effect on the bottom line is what did it.

And therein lies the problem: taking advantage of employees soley for the employer's gain. That's above and beyond making a profit. I have to problem with companies making money. But when a company like Citadel lays off hard working individuals, cuts pay for the employees they keep, files bankruptcy, and still pays their CEO's with million dollar bonuses... THAT'S what I'm talking about. THAT's flat out GREED! And that's why Radio is losing.

No rule that says you have to accept such a job. When you walk on their turf, you're subject to their way of doing business.

Huh? It's all inside baseball, that only affects you and others who've been fired. Doesn't affect radio in general, the listeners, or anyone outside of those companies. You're attempting to make a false connection in order to prove a point. But it's a false connection. Lots of companies operate the exact same way, and you wouldn't say their industries are "losing."

Not in broadcasting there weren't. And last time I checked, GM was still viewed as a great and powerful company that sells millions of new cars that lots of people buy, and advertises all the time on TV.
