What would WFAN do in the mornings if they had to let Imus go?

Quit blaiming Imus, AND quit blaiming sharpton....the person who is at fault here is the spineless, gutless, head of CBS.

CBS should have told sharpton to take a hike 5 minutes after imus first apologized...then on to normal business. But by letting things get out of control, the wooosie head of CBS ended up bowing down to the black media god and pulling imus off the air.

I hope don Kicks there butt in court!

Imus getting fired had about as much to do with his comment as it did the fact that his advertisers were pulling support. So it is not only CBS Radio being gutless and thoughtless, but also the advertisers of "Imus in the Morning" who believed they would be facing some type of negative backlash. Sharpton is looked at as being nothing more than a hemmorhoid on the ass of life. It's the followers of his beliefs that CBS Radio was worried about.

So who replaces him permanently? If it were up to me, I would have tried Mancow.

Not likely. He has no history whatsoever in the NYC market, and it's rare that a total unknown, new to the market, catches on in a key daypart like morning drive. The last one I can think of who did, is Imus himself back in 1971-72, at a time when WNBC was radically remaking itself and skewing younger.

Everyone else who clicks in mornings in NYC, usually begins in some other daypart and builds some familiarity and connection with the listeners in the market before moving to morning drive prime time. It's been that way since Harry Harrison moved from middays at WMCA to mornings at WABC almost 40 years ago. (Remember, Stern started in afternoons, first at WNBC and then at K-Rock, before moving to mornings. Same with O&A. That career pattern is pretty typical for people who eventually become morning radio stars.)

I was keeping with the CBS Radio motto. Keep in mind, they did bring in David Lee Roth for mornings and they will never live that one down. At least with Mancow, even without experience in New York, he has morning radio show experience in a big market (Chicago). True New York is the number one market, but it does not mean that other markets like Los Angeles or Chicago are the equivalent of Des Moines, Iowa either. Hell even if it means bring in Mancow for the afternoons with the agreement of eventually going to mornings and place the afternoon crew of WFAN in the mornings permanently, it is worth a shot. It could not hurt any worse than the media circus that has pitched their tents around CBS Radio over the past couple of years.

Stern was a great success in the market. The verdict has yet to be reached on O&A but so far the response has been a big negative for whatever reason. It seems to me that they feel very uncomfortable with the terrestrial show and based on recent happenings and their past history, I can understand if that is to be the case.
