Whatever became of Hullabaloo's Lada Edmund Jr.?

If Lada wants to remain out of the public eye, I'll respect that. Just basically curious and not being nosy. Lada was a fantastic dancer and performer and I will leave it at that. Thanks everyone for you input.

Speaking of Teen TV shows of the 60s, did you ever notice that the British groups never did any of Dick Clark's shows? Was their some kind of behind the scenes politics? Was there a problem of some kind?

I think the Herman's Hermits did at least one Bandstand ( or some Clark show ), but I think you may be right. Good Question !! Could very well have been politics.

...there does exist a clip of Van Morrison lip-synching to his record "Brown-Eyed Girl," with an expression clearly conveying his utter lack of enthusiasm for the record. (I don't think he's done the song in live performance since '68.) I seem to recall a story about The Kinks being booked on their 1965 U.S. tour, but the A.F. of M. pulled their permits for the concerts after the first few dates and they never made the "American Bandstand" appearance anyway...

Gotta step up here and defend Dick Clark. As I mentioned in a previous post he and I are both from Utica, N. Y. His father was part owner of WRUN AM/FM a station I worked at in the 1970's -long after he and his father had left. I had the opportunity to meet him a couple times. The first time I was invited to the taping of the 50th Anniversary American Bandstand show. I brought along family members and we all treated as V.I.P.s We cocktailed with Hollywood big shots in the hospitality tent. Then we were escorted into the auditorium and had front row seats. Kari Clark came out and hugged us all and told me how much Dick was looking forward to meeting me. After the taping of Michael Jackson & Cher Kari returned with Dick. He was very nice and humble. We had a great conversation about Utica and WRUN and people we knew. People all around were starring at us wondering who we were to get such attention.
I returned to L. A. the next year and they invited me to the offices of Dick Clark Productions. I spent most of an afternoon just hanging out with Dick & Kari. Just down to earth, nice people. Later they arranged for a V.I.P. tour for us at Warner Bros.
A couple months later he had his stroke. I talked to Kari once soon after that and she assured me that it was a minor stroke and he would be all right and back to normal soon.
Unfortunately wishful thinking. So I don’t know what Hollywood wanabes think of Dick Clark, but to me he is just another guy from Utica and that I enjoyed his company.

It appears Ms. Edmund Jr. doesn't want to be found for whatever reason. This question has been asked at other sites, and some have said that they've searched the Internet inside out and can't find her to save their lives. D.B. Cooper and Waldo are easier to find. If she wants to be found, she'll turn up on her own, like Betty Hutton did.

She is reported to be from Minneapolis, Minnesota. One of the websites that I use for location information shows a "Lada E Edmund" with an age of 87 and a "Lada Edmund" with no age given in that city. Could that be "Sr." and "Jr."? Junior would now be approximately 60 years old.

Oldies stations have more than made up for the lack of live performances...
unfortunately. ::)

Ah yes, just logged its 8,436th play on KOOL-FM Phoenix. ;)

the "rumor" going around about how his production company is actually suing people for uploading old AB clips on You Tube. Not only going after You Tube but also the people who actually upload the clips.

I don;t think there are any lawsuits, but there were demands from dick clark productions to remove clips from programs that they own. Oddly, this also included material from the early days of WFIL-TV, AB's original host station. Someone awhileback mentioned that clips from "Sally Starr", a kiddie show on WFIL, was removed from YouTube on demands from DCP.

I doubt there is such suits either. BUT...if Dick Clark, NBC-Universal, Viacom or whoever really wanted too, they could go after those who uploaded clips to You Tube much the same way some music comapnies have gone after those who downloaded music. All it takes is a court order to force You Tube to track down the offenders. But I doubt that will happen. What would they gain other than bad press. I can see the headlines now "Dick Clark sues 18 year old disabled woman from Indiana for uploading a clip of the Jefferson Airplane onto You Tube !!!"

Best just to go after You Tube.

Big fan of Lada Edmund Jr. here. From the research I have done, Lada:

1) Was the focus of the Hullabaloo dancers, the producer Steve Binder said she "was the show". Other dancers include Broadway starts Donna McKechnie, Michael Bennett, and Suzanne Charney. Lada was a teenager when she worked on Hullabaloo

2) Had a fan page, but it's gone now

3) Recorded a few records, none Top 40

4) After Hullabaloo, did a few TV shows, B-movies, even starred in 1 movie w/Jon Voight, also worked as a stuntwoman

5) Married , retired from show business

6) is currently working as a personal trainer, according to one web poster who employs her.

Today, she would have been a star. Here's hoping she will come out of hiding, let us know how she is doing, maybe dance a little? LOL!!

Wasn't Goldie Hawn also a Hullabaloo dancer?

Goldie Hawn was seen dancing in a bikini on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" circa 1968. Hullabaloo pre-dated Laugh-In by two or three years.

Before Laugh-In, Goldie Hawn was a regular on a pre-WKRP radio sitcom called "Good Morning, World", which ran on CBS around 1967. Lasted only one season.

I think Ray and Dave Davies actually got into a fistfight onstage during one of their first US shows, and that's why the Musicians Union pulled their tickets. They didn't play in the States again till the early 70's.

...yeah, that sounds about right. Oasis seems to have taken a lot from *two* British bands of the '60s. ;-) ...

...while we're on the subject of featured females on music shows, does anybody have a picture they can post somewhere online of Kam Nelson, who was a regular on "Groovy," the late afternoon rock 'n roll show over KHJ-TV/9 Los Angeles circa '68? She later married Bob Seagren, the Olympic athlete, and was immortalised (in a back-handed manner) by Harlan Ellison in one of his GLASS TEAT books...

Thanks for the info...With the DVD release of the kinescoped archives of the show..it makes one wonder if Lada would consider returning and introduce a second batch of DVD releases...maybe some NBC exec or affilliate engineer had a VTR going and taped a few shows off the network feed for posterity...My those individuals(if any) come forward with their color videos and blow away the kinescopes...and see Lada in her prime ...and in color.

And if it was recorded somewhere down the network line--5 kHz audio bandwith.

Which I suppose can't be any worse than a scratchy "NBC Kinephoto" soundtrack,
even if it was filmed off a monitor at either 30 Rock or Burbank.

Speaking of Kam on video, she can be seen in the opening montage of the early 70s series Room 222. She's seen walking with a brunette girl chatting just as the flute starts playing the theme.

Considering how all over L.A. television she was in the 60s, it's somewhat surprising that she dropped off the map the way she did.

Good Morning World with Ronnie Shell and Billy DeWolf, who played the other DJ on the show? Billy DeWolf played the station manager if I remember correctly. Lada was very good in her prime the girl next door we wished!

Joby Baker made up the other half of the jock duo, and the girl next door
was Goldie Hawn.
