What's happened to the signal at Cool Country 940?

Cool Country 940 WGFP-AM is virtually unlistenable in many areas in and around the city of Worcester where you used to get a pretty decent signal. Does anyone know what's up? I know that at one point there was a message about transmitter work being done on their website but that was quite awhile ago. Has the tower pattern been changed?

They changed their antenna system to this "experimental" antenna system a little while back.

Thanks. I was wondering that myself. I used to be able to hear them in Providence if WHJJ didn't have their IBOC hash on.

I wish they would get rid of the "experimental" antenna system so they would reach Worcester again. And streaming would be good, too.

What is this experimental system supposed to do? Put a stronger signal into a different part of their coverage?

I can tell you that the station has zero ground system because when Alan Okun built the studios there he ripped it all up. Last time I was there the transmission line was still the Radio Shack RG-8 coax I installed one Saturday night in 1985 as an emergency repair, running along the ground. I'm sure the over 30 year old CCA tube transmitter hasn't been looked at in years.
