Even though I don't have that station, I agree with you 100% percent about not only TV Land but Nick At Nite as well. It is getting just about as bad if not worse. Talk shows?? On a TV station devoted to classic TV(which TV Land is not about anymore,so goes for Nick at Nite)?? No wonder sales of classic TV shows on DVD are going sky high. There is nothing on TV worth watching anymore except for The Price Is Right,Jeopardy,Wheel Of Fortune,Family Feud,The Young And The Restless,Judge Judy,Suze Orman's show, Atlanta Braves baseball and San Antonio Spurs basketball. I am getting up to here with stations not sticking to their original premise and cramming reality TV down on our throats. Viacom is the worse(Nick at Nite,TV Land,TNN/Spike,CMT,MTV,MTV2,VH1,and any other station that Viacom may posess).

In my opinion, TV Land was its best in the early days, when it was all old reruns and "retromercials". Today, it's now practically "Nick At Nite", but with more of the same.

Its sister channel, Nicktoons (TV) is going the same way -- it showed the entire library of Nicktoons in the early days, commercial free, but it's practically now nothing more than yet another place to watch endless episodes of SpongeBob and OddParents.

Viacom's evil touch has also affected CBS and its O&Os, especially in its news division -- Dan Rather retired earlier this year amid scandal (with its newscast still mired in a distant third), and many of their O&Os are now leading its newscasts with tabloid-worthy news, instead (like third-place WCBS in New York, who thought Burt Reynolds playfully slapping their producer is more newsworthy than an apartment fire in Jersey).

The little promo cartoon may be one of the most cringeworthy things that has ever come out of the cesspit that is Viacom.

Seriously, who was in the focus group that told them turning TV Land into VH6 was a good idea? Just because ironic hipsters dig the endless snark-fests on a completely different network doesn't mean it'll work on a network with an entirely separate audience.

Well, I used to watch TV Land for its un-original programs, ie. reruns of good classic stuff. Now I just don't watch it and the "original programming" they offer is third rate stuff that doesn't even belong on E!. Since it is Viacom (the mark of crap), I am wondering if WCBS's Diane Doctor is somehow involved, she really knows how to screw things up!

Actually it was the more important House stem cell vote, which 4 and 7 led with at 11. The D-list celeberty slapping of a CBS producer (I have seen conflicting info on if it was a WCBS or CBS producer) isn't even newsworthy. And they kept beating a dead rat of a made up story - I can't recall if it was a "Shame on You" or "Eat at Your Own Risk" story - about rats in the Grand Central Terminal food court. It was #2 at 11 and was the top story the next day at noon. (WABC lead their noon with a child getting stabbed in New Jersey.) Ironically, the cafeteria at the CBS Broadcast Center was cited for violations by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Violations included the presence of rats and roaches, as well as food temperature issues. See: http://www.nypost.com/gossip/24622.htm
or http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/rii/index.shtml - choose Inspection Results, then Manhattan, and search for CBS.

Back on topic, there isn't really anything on Nick at Nite or TV Land that I can't see elsewhere (or stuff I don't want to see like their garbage original programs) and the stuff that I really want to see like old Emergency!, Dragnet, Adam-12, Mannix, etc. re-runs are nowhere to be found!

Dragnet '67 is coming to DVD next week(June 7th) while Adam-12 and Emergency! are both coming to DVD in August. I guess the people at Nick at Nite or TV Land don't possibly even know what shows like Hazel,Dennis The Menace,Donna Reed,Patty Duke, and a lot of older shows they have never heard of before.

Nick at Nite and TV Land want to target younger viewers with stuff like Chasing Farrah,World's Funniest Mom,talk shows,Fatherhood(which is an animated version of The Cosby Show which relies on the old episodes of TCS for support),etc. They really don't care about anyone over 30 who wants to watch reruns of older shows. I guess the fact that lots of the older shows like All In The Family,Andy Griffith,The Jeffersons,Sanford And Son,Dukes Of Hazzard, etc. are all on DVD,they take a "We Don't Care" attitude about what people would like to watch.

Come to think of it, most cable channels today want to target younger viewers by creating and introducing more original programming, along with the relaunching or rebranding -- and change of programming focus -- of "established" channels, such as TBS, TNN/Spike TV and GSN. That thought has occurred to me many times especially when thinking of channels including Disney Channel, GSN, TBS, FX, MTV, USA, VH1 and Nick at Nite, among others.

Aha! The above poster may have hit upon an answer!

Why "give away" programming to "TV Land" or "Nick @ Nite" when
you can charge people money to buy it on DVD?

Thoughts/comments?!?

I think that the attitude of both TV Land and Nick At Nite is this: Why don't everyone buy DVD's of older shows, and then we can show TV shows that are basically not classic, and if we do have classics, butcher them and edit them and skip a bunch of episodes and skip one episode of The Munsters because it is not PC(Herman's Peace Offensive)??

Everyone wants to see the shows that they watched for years that haven't been seen in a while like Adam-12, Dragnet(1967-1970),Emergency!,etc. unedited and commerical free on DVD. Hopefully in the next few years we will get to see the earlier episodes of The Lucy Show,Patty Duke,Dennis The Menace,Hazel,Route 66,and others on DVD. There are dollar stores that have episodes of older shows on DVD like Make Room For Daddy(1953-1956 version with Jean Hagen),50's Dragnet,Mr. And Mrs. North,Topper,Jack Benny, and a lot of others.

Primarily consensus: Get people not to watch TV Land and Nick at Nite, plain and simple. Kind of sad when you think about it that they have strayed from their original premises entirely.

Or else Bonnie Hammer lost her job at Sci-Fi and moved over to TVLand.<P ID="signature">______________

They should be programming slightly more obscure shows(Six Million Dollar Man, Bionic Woman, Incredible Hulk, & Greatest American Hero, even though that one's currently available on DVD).

To whit the CSRs will tell us:
"Sorry, we have an umpteen year contract for the service. May I suggest that you just not watch that channel?"

I think that the CSRs should know what we think, even if they do have extended contracts. Not watching is good, however.
