What's the deal with KPPZ-LP Urban Oldies 98-5 Kansas City

The station has been dead air for half a week, and never really sounded great before that... Even before it was Urban Oldies music, it didn't sound great. Back then, it just played one podcast episode after the other with no announcements, not even a top of hour ID.

Now, it's either broadcasting oldschool R&B with no bass, or dead air. Half the time it's been dead air ever since it launched with Urban Oldies last year. Here is their website, which has a non-working audio stream, if anyone cares about that station and/or wants to get it from the owners and run it right. Home

One more thing, the signal is just the same as it was when it was on 100.5 before it moved. The construction permit had filed to change towers, but the station doesn't seem to have changed towers...

I did try to contact them many times, and the owner unfortunately wasn't very nice. Her name is Tamarra. I see her technical consultant is actually a good one, but that doesn't mean the local engineers are that good. https://fccdata.org/?lang=en&facid=197000&appid=25076f916f68b0c2016f7bf89ffd01c9&i=1

I appreciate the fact that there is someone paying attention to KC radio (even though it’s remained relatively the same in the few years I moved out of the area, with the exception of things like ‘RBZ rebranding).

That being said, as someone who has actually worked in radio (including an LPFM), if you’ve contacted them quite frequently (judging off of you past posts), just let them be and be patient. I’m sure they’re well aware of the problems, and are likely trying to do what they can given the circumstances (especially the financial unease right now). Contacting them over and over is not going to speed the process along. (Keep in mind, they’re not O&O by a company like Cumulus and Audacy where they have practically an infinite amount of resources at their disposal.)

If you think you have an infinite amount of resources at Cumulus, you’ve never worked at Cumulus!

I hear it's better now, but I was there during the era of lavish corporate benefits and peasant conditions for everyone else. Engineering wasn’t something they put much money into either, though I'm sure they put more money into that than they did us.

I didn’t work for the Cloud Company, though I looked into them in the past and have friends/acquaintances that work(ed) for them. And yes, the environment has improved a bit, from what I’ve been told.
