Whats up with WLW's big push to try to get people to look at their web site?

This all seemed to have started about a month or two ago. The hosts used to go for days without even mentioning the site at all, now its mentioned several times each hour.

As I recall, the site was terribly designed and I never could find anything on it, so I gave up.

Not to be rude, but are you an idiot?

The future of all that is done with radio is going to be the website. The future of all communications/entertaiment/information/content etc is the web. Who knows what form it will be in the future, but there is no doubt that is where the people are going and where the money is going.

Read any broadcasting news mag/rag/page and you will see the evidence. More and more dollars are being spent on-line. CC is looking for future revenue growth to be new media.

On top of that, there are many more options on the web. The spoken word is what we do in radio (some add music.) With the web, it's the audio, video, written word, etc. In a word CONTENT. There is more room for more content, and thus more places to attach dollars.

The future of much advertising in the future is going to be a centralized personal communication device that doesn't care what radio station has 50kw and what station has 5kw, directional or not--if you have web access you can be plugged in.

I didn't make all this up...I called Dionne Warwick and she told me it was going to be this way.

But since they waited so long to push it, you would also think they would have at least improved it first.

Do you see any reason to visit that web site?

No I don't. Their web site is horrible.

perhaps i can simplify it: CC (among others) pushes people to their hosts sites so people will go and interact with the show/host on another level. a lot of people listen while they work in their cubicles, thus they can go to the site immediately while listening. others come home from work and spend the evening listening to the radio or tv while trolling around online.

more clicks to a site is more viewers, and that means better advertising dollars. blogs are now sponsored. pages are sponsored. google key word linking. etc., etc., etc. it's all about the MONEY.

I have the radio on for a reason...to LISTEN to it and get the info that way while I am doing other things. I don't have time to stop what I'm doing and log on to your web site, that's if I'm near a computer in the first place! If I wanted to READ about news, what's happening, etc. I will pick up a newspaper, news weekly, magazine, etc. TV news stations are just as bad, give two or three sentences and say "if you want to see more, log onto our website". Hey you wankers, I'm watching or listening to your station for the NEWS or WEATHER or SPORTS. You'd have time to give all that if you knock off all the damn fluff about Britney, Lindsay or whether what fashion wear will be in this season or who broke wind near some school marm and offended her. And by the way, all of CC's websites for any of their stations are horrible, they look like they were designed by a semi retarded platypus!

Here in LA-LA land KFI has put cameras in the studio to produce a "VOD" cast of Handel on The News and features downloadable Podcasts of all of their local talk shows including Leo Laporte's weekend tech show. Also Clear Channel is one of the station groups to get how to stream and make money. The KFI stream has commercials tailored to the web usually for web connected or friendly businesses. Probably WLW is getting ready to launch a bigger Web presence as it is one of the most preeminent historical stations (like KFI here) in the CC stable.

Look at it this way.. The CC web sites are better than the COX ones.

And????...........

I actually use and enjoy the site. Listening to shows I may have missed - Cunningham, Mike M. Without commercials. Anytime I want!

I like the podcasts of Sloan, Cunningham and McConnell. I finally heard Cunningham's sunday show and it was terrible. I'll never download it again. Also how do people listen to Gary Burbank? His comedy is not funny at all.

You won't have to worry about Burbank in a few weeks. He's retiring, and WLW is supposed to be auditioning some of his replacements very soon.

Is the intent to keep the show local?

Are they thinking about some sort of continuation of the comical time slot?

John Kiesewetter has said the WLW intent is to keep a comical theme. unfortunately, at least for me, Burbank hasn't been comical for almost 20 years.
