whats yo most listen to radio staion in chicago

My two most listened to stations in Chicago are B-96 and V-103. I used to like GCI, but they seem to not have any direction anymore (under Kris Kelley), they (GCI) aren't rotating enough new music. They are STILL playing, "get me bodied" by Beyonce which came out last summer!!! Also, GCI has just lost their House roots. I predict that Ms. Kelley will not be in Chicago very long.

i knew house was going away on GCI. Kris wants to take it younger and thats gonna be an interesting outcome as they lose the 30 something crowd to v103....

As far as V103.. Tom Joyner & Doug Banks has a decent balance of music during the week...Saturday Nights (Back In The Day Show) is good too till 10pm...

They need to drop the Gospel, back off the slow jams and put more energy into the day parts.. I'm not saying, go "whole hog" dance but put more tempo in the rotation......

The week night mixes are ok, but dont play a bunch of slow jams between them maybe one or 2.no more then 3... Build the energy back up and go back in the mixes.....Mixers that actually blend would be nice too
JMO.......

I agree with you completely V103 needs to pick up the pace and drop some of the slow stuff. Sometimes they make WNUA 95.5
seem like a heavy metal station compared to them.

I dont live in Chicago, but when I visit I either listen to B-96, or 99.9 NINE FM during nights when Dance Factory is on. I know Nine FM isnt really a Chicago station, but they cover the south side and NW Indiana quite well..... Once in a while I tune into 100.3 Love FM, but not that often. I used to listen to WKSC back when they were more of a true CHR,,, but if im in the CHI and I want Rhythmic music, why not just listen to B-96 (RIGHT)..... :p Im with you guys, I dont like GCI anymore either, though I used to back when they played some Dance Music. Power 92 just sounds Ghetto as hell, so I'll take B-96 over the other Hip Hop stations any day.

What are the oldschool mixes on V-103 like? Is it R&B and soul, or is it Classic Dance? OR BOTH???????

The mixes (V103) gotten better since the new PD took over .....Old School R&B with some Classic Dance/House.....But the mixers dont blend good- One mixers "Slam mixes" and blends when he feels like it...The other mixer isnt consistant..He will have a decent groove, and the next song will mess the mix up...... Or, the next blend will have you turning off your radio....

Untill the PD quits "playing it safe" and tell the mixers to "get it right" its not even worth listening to.....

Only one of the 2 is a legend .he blends ok....

Kenny Jason has gotten lazy about his "mixes" lately. He was one of the best DJ's in Chicago back in the day, now it seems like he doesn't even try anymore. :(

Kenny is still the best (when he has no restrictions)...The issue (problems) came from former management. They restricted him so much, he does what he's doing now.....
Now the New Years Eve Mix show, Kenny Knocked it out of the park..At the Hot Mix 5 reunion (at the HOB) he played like the " WBMX/WDAI " Kenny we knew...

Kenny wasnt the target, it was the other one.....

I had a chance to listen to v103's "Back In The Day" Show on Saturday...It was great!! Now if they played some of that music during the week, it would work wonders for TSL in my opinion....
Great Music, Great Vibe/Energy, it dosent sound "canned" like the music during the week (give Smokey Norville, Kirk Franklin, and the ballads a break)....

I understand you were talking about Maurice "Ice" Culpepper. Usually when he (Culpepper) starts off a mix, he's pretty good. But later into it, he doesn't know when to start or stop "blending" of certain songs to the point where it doesn't flow well. There are so many other better DJ's in Chicago that could be doing the mixes at V-103 than Culpepper.
Also, I like the "Back in the day" show on V-103. True enough, they should add some of these cuts to regular rotation, but the problem is most Urban AC stations are programmed in this manner. They focus on "canned" music and ballads.
I think what needs to happen is there needs to be more "Hot" Urban AC stations that focus on "old school" hip-hop and R&B groups from the 80's and 90's. You have a big format hole of listeners that grew up in the eighties and became adults in the nineties. There aren't stations out there that are focusing on them. A V-103 station is too "slow" and a "GCI" station is too young, there isn't a "Hot" Urban AC that is middle ground. For example, you have "Soft" Adult Contemporary formats like "93.9, The Lite" and you have "Hot" Adult Contemporary formats like "101.9, the Mix."
Why can't Urban AC stations be like that. To me, that is what CBS radio should have done with 105.9, instead of putting on ANOTHER station that plays the same old thing.

You hit it on the head on Cul Pepper..Plus alot of songs he uses leave you scratching your head....

JM3 would do a better job @ V103....a better fit and a stronger talent.....

"Back In The Day" is great....

Also the weeknight (The Real Show) mixes is cool too....there are people who dont want to be that mellow (quiet storm) early in the evening.......

I think it can be done @ V103...The V103 listener that was focused in the late 80s, has moved on...more than likely to WNUA...

If new research was done ....plus an agressive effort to reach out to the "new" listeners  (35-45  aged women)...who grew up on the late 70s-90s it would go very well...

V103 was the benchmark for the other stations....they just recycled what was done (since inception) and everyone is following "v103 chicago" v103 changes the other stations will follow, trust me on that one.......

Have you done a study to verify there's a hole in the market. Just because you like mixes so much doesn't mean everybody else does. In fact, most females would rather prefer the emotional mid tempo/ballads that V103 plays. You guys must be a mixer that is jealous to be hating on another mixer! Go listen to Pulse 87 New York. In fact, move out of town! LOL You have too much TSC going on! Time Spent Complaining ...

When was that study done? and who was it done too? 35-40 year old females who grew up in the 70s and 80s are very familiar with the concept of mixing and dance music...the technical aspect is another issue.....

It just mirrors the fact that we live in a society that downplays excellence and talent, elevates mediocracy and inconsistancy....

Not a matter of "hating" its about putting your best effort in the ear of the masses......Dosent matter if the listener knows whats good or bad....Quality is Quality...Period.

It's like having a High School graduate with a "D" or "F" GPA get admitted to Harvard or another highly rated college with the excuse of "intelligence doesnt matter"........
