Not a matter of "hating" its about putting your best effort in the ear of the masses......Dosent matter if the listener knows whats good or bad....Quality is Quality...Period.

It's like having a High School graduate with a "D" or "F" GPA get admitted to Harvard or another highly rated college with the excuse of "intelligence doesnt matter"........

OK, one more time. Pardon me while I sigh.

Radio is a BUSINESS!!!!!!!!

The basic idea of a BUSINESS is to MAKE MONEY!!!!!!!

"Doesnt(sic) matter if the listener knows good or bad..."

OF COURSE IT DOES. If the listener doesn't like what they hear....THEY WILL STOP LISTENING, AND THE STATION WILL STOP MAKING MONEY!!!!!!

Class dismissed. Again.

If they dont have a choice, (as it is with Urban radio) then they will go back to whats available...not like there is an alternative....

Who is JM3? I've never heard of him.

Well he was the 1st mixer on LOVE-fm.

Never heard of him. I asked several friends and they never heard of him either. I guess he doesn't t spin at a club regularly.

amfmhdst said:
Not as much as he used to.....He is more on the production end these days.....

Then again (In JM3's Defence) I never heard Boolu Master or Maurice "ICE" Culpepper, before they was on air...I asked about them when they GOT on air and nobody heard of them either before....

Also Boolu Master's "On Air" Performance is great.....there never was a issue of "why is he on air"

I have heard of them. I just never heard of this JM3 even after him being on the radio as you say. I guess no impact was made by him. The key is can you make an impact and draw an audience. If you can not then the odds are that your radio lifespan will be short. Good luck JM3.

You heard of Boolu Master & Maurice Culpepper before they was on Air??!! Interesting......

Actually There was several post on this very board about him & The SNDP. The ratings went up when he was on air, so there was an impact....... LOVE-fm wasnt the right platform for the DJ...He would have done alot better on a Urban station....as Boolu & Maurice had....
I wish him well too....

I heard of JM3....Actually met him at the last Sky Show in Chicago with Steve Hurley...He helps out with Hurley with the Old School New Mixes heard on the TJMS...Part of the problem is he does alot of behind the scenes work with someone else in the forefront, and never gets recognized for it......

No. People want to listen to what they want to hear. Just like you. The fact that the large majority of people do not want to listen to what YOU want to listen to doesn't make it wrong.

Go program your ipod.

Dude, I am sooooo sick and tired of you criticizing those who want something different on the radio. A specialty show here and there isn't going to kill a station's revenue. If you feel you can do better, then what are your ideas for a station to make money? Oh, and it ironic that you mention IPOD, because that is going to be radio's demise if radio doesn't listen to what people TRUELY want.

I am soooooo sick of people posting when they are unable to spell.

I TRULY wish it would end.

And Hamp, I'll say it again: If you want something different on a radio station, BUY A FREAKING RADIO STATION.

Actually we are sick of people posting with a lack of good comprehension skills, compiled with elitist/closed minded thinking....and feeble retorts about spelling when you have nothing left to argue......

Consider the law of averages...... if you have one complaint, you have 1000 who have not spoken up. Better instead of buying a radio station, complain to the PD...and pray he is a better people person then rkchgo........

On the old RW website not the ReelWorld One Service... There is a package for V103 WVAZ.

Question. Does V103 use the package or did V103 dropped the package before the package aired?

Thanks for info.

Yup, I'm a horrible people person, having been a successful businessman for twenty years now, with a 98% client retention. Horrible people skills.

I'm elitist? I don't think so. Do I believe that stations are in the business to make money? Yes, I do.

Complain to the PD, and waste your time. It's just not gonna happen. Oddly, my people skills say I probably shouldn't tell you to quit beating your head against a brick wall....and making me watch you bleed. Or DO SOMETHING, instead of whining.

The phrase "Dont like what you hear-Go program a Ipod" is not the words of a person who is a good business person. You MAY be a good one....I have no track record or resume to base it on...Nor do I wish to see it....

Of COURSE stations are in business to make money...thats a "no brainer" But the same standards that are put up for on Air Staff, Production/Creative Services, SHOULD be the same for MIXERS as well. Let me break it down further, so we can be CLEAR.

This is not a issue about WHATS being played....Its HOW its being played.....The same skills the ON AIR announcer uses to go to break (i.e. segue ways) is a STANDARD. IF not delivered, the someone who CAN do should be hired...PERIOD.

So if a mixer cant properly transition to a song, get one who can....Lets stop and make sure you are fully understanding what im saying...We are NOT asking the mixer to play unfamiliar music, we want a mixer to play WHAT (I.E. FAMILIAR MUSIC) he plays PROPERLY. There are standards set for a proper mix-they should be FOLLOWED.

IF a PD is going to control the music, he should (AS WELL) HOLD standards as to HOW he plays it.

A PD isnt going to put a person who "Stutters" or "Rambles On" as part of the On Air Staff, Why hire a mixer who cant mix properly.....???

And speaking of a PD, apparently someone complained to the PD or the PD saw this post....there has been some IMPROVEMENT in the mixes.....
so time wasnt wasted.......

From Damixah3:

i knew house was going away on GCI. Kris wants to take it younger and thats gonna be an interesting outcome as they lose the 30 something crowd to v103....

As far as V103.. Tom Joyner & Doug Banks has a decent balance of music during the week...Saturday Nights (Back In The Day Show) is good too till 10pm...

They need to drop the Gospel, back off the slow jams and put more energy into the day parts.. I'm not saying, go "whole hog" dance but put more tempo in the rotation......

The week night mixes are ok, but dont play a bunch of slow jams between them maybe one or 2.no more then 3... Build the energy back up and go back in the mixes.....Mixers that actually blend would be nice too
JMO.......

From TR1992:

I agree with you completely V103 needs to pick up the pace and drop some of the slow stuff. Sometimes they make WNUA 95.5
seem like a heavy metal station compared to them.

From Hamp:

Also, I like the "Back in the day" show on V-103. True enough, they should add some of these cuts to regular rotation, but the problem is most Urban AC stations are programmed in this manner. They focus on "canned" music and ballads.
I think what needs to happen is there needs to be more "Hot" Urban AC stations that focus on "old school" hip-hop and R&B groups from the 80's and 90's. You have a big format hole of listeners that grew up in the eighties and became adults in the nineties. There aren't stations out there that are focusing on them. A V-103 station is too "slow" and a "GCI" station is too young, there isn't a "Hot" Urban AC that is middle ground. For example, you have "Soft" Adult Contemporary formats like "93.9, The Lite" and you have "Hot" Adult Contemporary formats like "101.9, the Mix."
Why can't Urban AC stations be like that. To me, that is what CBS radio should have done with 105.9, instead of putting on ANOTHER station that plays the same old thing.

From Damixah3:

You hit it on the head on Cul Pepper..Plus alot of songs he uses leave you scratching your head....

My take: Gosh, these sure seems like comments about which music, not how it's mixed or presented!

So if a mixer cant properly transition to a song, get one who can....Lets stop and make sure you are fully understanding what im saying...We are NOT asking the mixer to play unfamiliar music, we want a mixer to play WHAT (I.E. You're joking, right? You really think it's because of your posts?

<sigh>

Never mind, just not worth it.
