one more right wing hack for another right wing hack. when are we going to get a regular left leaning show on the air in progressive democratic louisville?

We had one- Mike Ward. ::)

Mike ward not a good comparison he was not a good talk radio host bad voice. Now it does not matter what side of the fence you are on you have to be entertaining and if you are you will do well in talk. Rush i never agree but he is good at what he does same for laura ingram

I may not agree w these people but they are good at what they do and as far as michael savage goes i find him very interesting but did not listen to him because what whas did to joe elliot but i bet you stephanie miller and ed schultz would hold there own here.

This FM talker on whatever signal it's going to be on will not even pass 1080 in the ratings and we all know the ratings on 1080. I give this FM talker one year before it's flipped again.

yeah i say maybe a year top, just ask WWFT in Indy which had 10.5 Months as an FM Talker before it flipped again, and WFTK in Cincy which i think got to 13 months before it flipped from talk to Rock

It's all about content and promotion and those attributes didn't exist on the stations you mentioned.

It's a shame Joe Elliott is exiled to The Sunday Morning Talk Show. He produces compelling talk radio instead of YOU DISAGREE WITH ME? THEN YOU HATE AMERICA! style of talk radio. If an FM talker were able to hire Joe Elliott (I know, non-compete) and build a local daytime line up around him, the Cuddly Giant's days would be numbered.

No company can afford that!

I am not that much of a talk radio fan and reguardless of which side of the aisle they are on but i would listen if it were done that way.

Does anyone remember when 105.1 went on the air in 1993 as WEHR? They weren't too bad of an adult Top 40 station. The thing I remember is that they played Paul McCartney's latest single ''Hope Of Deliverence''. No other station was playing it. I also remember that Gary Green did mornings and Dave Steel did afternoons. In 1996, WEHR went off the air for about 3 months and returned as WXLN ''The Bridge'' playing Christian music. (and also simulcasted on 105.7).
Then came Feb. 2000 when "I Am The Walrus'' was played for about 10 days and the relocated WLRS began.

Ah yes, I remember it well. I worked for the company that signed on WEHR. It was co-owned with WVJS/WSTO Owensboro. You were one of a few listeners since it never showed up in the ratings. The people involved, like Gary and Dave, put their heart in souls into the project. However, the ownership had no idea how a radio station operated. (Century Communications purchased WVJS/WSTO ten years earlier to acquire the co-owned local cable company) It's a long story but they approved the initial investment to sign on the air but support ended there. There was no promotional money beyond a few billboards so few knew WEHR existed. The main issue was the signal. Originally it was the equivalent of 3kw and the signal couldn't make it downtown or to the east end. Also, 105.1 had a co-channel in Cincy and Lancaster so WEHR would disappear during skips. One day WUBE Cincinnati over took WEHR on the station's mod monitor even with a Yagi aimed to Bullitt County.

Once the owner finally threw in the towel it was decided to keep the station on the air. The attitude is the station would be worth more as a operating station instead of going dark. So there was someone in the station during business hours (first Gary until he found a job then Dave) loading logs...actually recycling logs, answering the rare phone call and maintaining the public file.

For what it is worth, the equipment was state of the art. A conventional STL wasn't available because the landlord wouldn't allow it so this new fangled thing called a T1 was used. The audio was very nice. Dave is an audiophile and a radio person so the Unity 2000i was set for the best of both worlds, a big open sound. Meter readings were recorded automatically in Owensboro. The image voice was Karl Shannon and the jingles were from TM Century.

Liberal talk shows don't make money, that's a fact. Just look at Air America. If you want to hear left shows, pop for a satellite radio. Now myself I can't stand either left or right talk shows since they all spew the same garbage over and over. I listen to shows like Rollye James and Alex Jones. I gave up on terrestrial radio a few years ago since it sucks wind in Louisville with everything being syndicated. 700 WLW is still a good station in Cincinnati but for how much longer who knows? It is almost all local and carries Reds games which can never be heard on a station with a decent signal in Louisville for some reason. That is another reason I bought an XM radio back in 2005. WHAS lost my support when in June 1997 the PD was on Joe Elliott's show saying "Joe Donovan will be here for quite some time" then on August 29, 1997 at 5:00AM he was gone after his Friday morning show.

I disagree lib talks shows do make money look at ed schultz and stephanie miller they make money there shows have been around for several years it also depends on the sales team you have and by the way air america is atill around though i am not sure why? There lineup is always changing. I bet stephanie miller or Ed schultz could do well here.

I also prefer Alex Jones over AM talk radio. AM radio is way too predictable and they are all basically saying the same thing. If Rush says it on his show, chances are Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, the Salem Radio hosts and others are making the same point on their show. It is similar to television news where they decide what and how people should think about instead of allowing the listeners or viewers to think for themselves.

thom hartmann rented satellite time before he signed on with air america and now he's with dial global, the same network that i belive right wingers beck and boortz are on. he'd do well here. and then there is mike malloy. he's gone through four or five networks now before saying screw it i'm doing it alone. if savage weiner can do well from 9-12 taped, mike malloy can do well from 9-12 live. the problem with these progressive hosts on the local level is that the sales teams for the stations these shows are on do a piss poor at best job of selling spots, partially because they don't target the right advertisers, partially because who these people are selling spots to are deathly afraid of the reactions they will get from the conservative customers should they find out that they are advertising on a liberal station. for a city like louisville to not have frankly a progressive show on the air in a regular daily timeslot shows how little the sales team are trying. businesses in the highlands would do a killing if they were advertised on a progressive station.

Long time reader (since around the time Joe Elliot got fired), first time poster...

It's been a few months since I've checked out HD Radio's webpage and when I went through the listings, it listed 105.1 WLRS as an HD station. Last time I checked the page, LRS was not listed, so I don't know what (if anything) that means about the pending mysterious flip. I am surprised that a station still hasn't flipped yet. LRS has never broadcasted in HD and the sound quality is still in the toilet. Who knows...

Why would you think it would be 105.1 ? WLRS isn't going anywhere. Its a legend radio station here in Louisville. That would be like them removing 84 WHAS from the AM dial.

A legend station that never streamed. And you were wrong anyways. Why people choose talk over rock I'll never understand. Stupid LRS shoulda friocken streamed! What a dumb station!

Funniest post of the year.
I rarely cackle out loud at anything posted on here, but I made an exception this time.
I thought I heard something weird the other night. Thought it was the North Koreans testing a new weapon. :)

You mean someone in radio actually might have LIED?? Gasp! Surely not at a Clearchannel station. Corporate radio is here to help you. Terry Meiners said Lowry Mays promised, "they'd be no changes".

Joe Donovan was the first casuality in the long war of butchering local programming. They started with the least listened overnight programming then moved to the evening programming with the removal of Joe Elliott. How long will Sportstalk remain til its replaced with something cheaper off the satellite? How soon will the sacred Meiners, who has to be one of the best paid DJs in the country, proved to be more of a liability than an asset?
