Would AM 740 in Montgomery and 730 in Huntsville turn into a complete simulcast of WJOX? I don't know the Huntsville lineup, but in Montgomery the JOX Network morning/midday shows run on 1210/107.5 and Finebaum on 740. Wouldn't Cumulus like to "keep it all in the family"?
 
I hope so, since 97.7 WZZN in Huntsville has dropped The Opening Drive for their own local morning show, and The Roundtable for Jim Rome. WZZN went from about the only thing I listen to other than Sirius, to being completely dropped from my presets.
 
I would think so.

There are many people that still don't even know that WZZN exists. There has been no advertisement for it whatsoever that I've ever seen and they have yet to show in the ratings. 730 is heritage sports for Huntsville and has always services Huntsville just fine. There's not enough sports audience for two stations. I still don't understand why they went sports with 97.7 when they moved it into Huntsville instead of one of the other obviously better choices. How long do you see them staying sports before they try something else?
 
Hooray Jim Rome is back on in Huntsville. Still, 97.7 should drop sports for top 40 radio. Between them and WWFA 102.7, they can do some serious damage to WZYP.
 
As much as I'd love to see a CHR in Huntsville, I don't think 97.7 is the right signal for it. It's not strong enough to go against WZYP. I may anger a few by saying this but I think CC should consider flipping 100.3 The River to CHR. The station has been on a decline for some time now and continues to worsen. Either that, or Black Crow should consider changing Star 99.1 to CHR. They're recent revamp has improved the station some but not much, and surely probably not as much as they were hoping. Plus over the past several months they've sounded much like they did before the change instead of the new fresh Hot A/C sound they transitioned to. That'd be a GREAT choice for a CHR with a 100,000 watt powerhouse to take on another 100,000 watt WZYP in a CHR Top 40 war.

As for 97.7, I always thought classic country would be a good choice considering how impressive WQAH 105.7's numbers are in the Huntsville market and how WEAK of a signal they have. With 97.7 going classic country on a much superior signal in comparison, I'd bet you would see WQAH's numbers dwindle away.

Classic Country, or either oldies. I believe either may do fair (not great) with the signal currently available. Plus, I figure that the baby boomer audience is more likely to deal with static than younger audiences since some grew up back in the days of AM! :D

No offense intended lol... Or as a distant third option, What about Southern Gospel. The only competition is 99.9 WRJL in Eva.

Oldies wouldn't be too bad of an idea either for 97.7 but remember "Sunny 98.1" (WLOR 1550am) is doing oldies. The 98.1 translator has a pretty good signal in Huntsville. I don't know about southern gospel with 99.9 doing it. I don't think the audience for that would support a 2nd station. I only say classic country as my #1 pick because it would be a much closer service contour in Huntsville as opposed to WQAH's rimshot.

You make a good point about older audiences dealing with static better than younger. No offense intended from me either.
